New to corals… curious as to what the white looking things are on my GSP. Any help identifying what they are is greatly appreciated.

I see this is your first post. Welcome to r2r.

More background details would help.

Where did your live rock come from and how long has tank been set up?

What else is in the tank?

@krash318
Can you get a close up of white tubes?

Do tubes have feathers?
Are the tubes stationary?
Are they brittle or soft/spongy?

The rocks came from our local fish store where we bought all the supplies for the tank. It has been setup now going on almost 4 months. Currently there is a couple frags of Zoas, a mushroom frag, 2 clown fish, a cleaner shrimp, 4 snails, 4-5 hermit crabs. Tank is a 10 gal. Sorry I don’t know the exact names of the corals.

The don’t move, they seem to be brittle, if I touch them with my tongs, they break into pieces. There appears to be some “feather like” flowing in the water. It’s hard to see it when it’s opened up during the day, but can see it a lot better when the light is off and it has closed up for the day

Look like feather duster / tube worms. Mine tend to grow in dim and even completely dark areas and never on live coral. Do you have any idea how much light the GSP is getting? My GSP thrives under high light and high flow but does ok under medium light and flow.

@krash318

Kudoes to your ecosystem. Without knowing other details, I assume you are running higher nutrients than a SPS tank.
My cryptic refugium is loaded with tube worms. I suspect the fish graze on them in display. Not sure about that.

Consider starting a tank journal in member tank forum.

Enjoy the journey.

Here is a better picture of what I am concerned about. Are Feather Dusters harmful? I am worried it is harming the GSP

Not much chance on GSP being harmed by tube worms. However, if you don”t like them, then brush them off.

Most reefers can’t grow tube worms.
