Hair Algae tips?

Just did a water change and we're looking better! Didn't have a spare toothbrush so I used an algae remover thingy with a sponge on the end, but it worked like magic!

I have never heard of this before and it sounds intriguing. What about collateral damage? How close can you get to something you want to keep alive and not damage it?

I've gotten pretty close to some zoas and they closed up, but opened back up later with no apparent damage.

I move any frags that aren't glued down first. Otherwise I don't do it directly adjacent to any coral, but the skeletons of LPS away from any polyps shouldn't be harmed.

I do turn all my pumps off first to keep the hot water on target longer.

You can see by the absence of GHA how close I got to this toadstool and GSP.
