Very nice tank reefer! I have the same icecap 3k and it works really well, do not got for the smaller version of the icecap!! I have it and boy does it hum and hum its insane the amount of noise it makes.
Thank you and thanks for looking! We have the smaller one (1k) in the 32 Biocube and it's dead silent. Maybe you got ahold of a bum unit?

You sps hounds have earned my respect. How frustrating! Lowered my light schedule and my sps are browning or bleaching. I'm new to the coral game so could I be experiencing a gradual decline on the coral health when placing all those in and chasing my numbers to bring them up? I'm new to the dosing game and working to get my levels up. I leave in a few days and would like to start my dosing pumps but I have no clue in the how's to and how much and when. Can anyone lend a brother a helping hand?

Salt 35 (apex)
Ph 7.93 avg (apex)
Nitrate .75 (redsea)
Alk 8.1 (hanna)
Mag 1360 (redsea)
Cal 445 (redsea)
Temp 78.1

Am I missing anything out of the norm?

When I started up my dosing pumps it was kinda a guessing game, I went onto BRS's site and used their calculator and used it a a base line for dosing minus 10 percent and then I checked parameters every couple of days and adjusted as needed. You use their calculator to figure how much you need to bring it up for the loss over a few days and then divide it by the number of days between testing of parameters. I have experienced browning of sps due to low light levels. When I bought a Par meter and used it I didn't realize just how bad the human eye is for assessment of par.

I added the HD 52 and it was starting to bleach some. I think I was cooking them. Unfortunatly Brs doesn't calculate for what I'm using or at least I haven't seen it listed. I'm using the tropic Marin balling a,b,c. Randy Farleys calculator happens to list it so that's what I have been using.

On 10/3
My mag was 1360 and dosed 200 ml that should have brought it up to 1420 according to the calculator.
Cal was 450 didn't dose
Alk was 7.7 dosed 150ml and brought it up to 8.1 which is what I expected, I noticed 150ml brings it up .4

Today
Mag 1360, could the sps deplete the mag that much while only bring my cal from 450 -445? My pee brain isn't grasping it.

Mag usually isn't an issue, I wouldn't think sps corals would use that much, I never dos mag in my sps dominate tank.

Ok, do you drop .4 dkh in 2 days, if so then I would start dosing alk at around 70 mil daily. You may not be able to use the BRS calculator, but if you know what you have to dos to bring up the numbers in a givin time, then you just divide what you have to dos by the numbers of days in between testing.

For some reason I have no idea why I picked 2 days, lol, when you tested it at 7.7 alk, how long was the previous test and was it around 7.7 also, you seem to have a good grasp on what it takes to raise your tank up to a certain level. Basically, if you tested your tank at 7.7 a week ago and added 150 mil to raise it up to 8.1, and then tested it again a week later and got 7.7 and added 150 mil again to raise it to 8.1 again, then you would take that 150 mil and divide it by 7, and then dos that much daily.

Let me share some pics of what's been going on. I have learned that I LOVE the charting on this APEX.

The only real grasp I have at this point is the cal. I think...
450 to 445 over 4 days using my 1.1mL per minute dosing pump I can maintain 6.6 ml per day. High side 7 minutes for my 28.5 depletion over 4 days.

I may have to test another time or 2 on mag and alk

If you like graphs then you need to find a way to get the Trident, just got mine and hooked it up a few days ago and I am like a kid in a candy store, LOL!!!;Hilarious

I would test alk again and 3 days, then add what is needed to raise it up to the desired levels, then take that and divide it by 3. Same thing for mag.

I leave late Wednesday evening/ Thursday morning to drink all of @saltyhogs beer before I hit my annual blues fest for a few days. I guess I can manually dose to get my levels where I want them. Do a baseline Wednesday evening and divide by 5 when I get back. :D

I don't think I would dose calcium till you get back. None of the test kits can really be accurate enough to for sure differentiate between 445 and 450. Calcium will fall very slowly in comparison to Alkalinity. Measure alkalinity 2-3 days apart and calculate your consumption. Then I would dose 60-70% of that and rinse, lather, repeat.

For Magnesium I would just dose it up to about 1400 before you go and not worry about it till you get back. As long as it's above 1300 it won't hurt anything.

Dang, as luck would have it I dosed my cal and mag then sat down and seen this....story of my life always a day late or a dollar short.

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
