Heater size

I currently have an Inkbird controller with an 800 w Finnex heater in a 40 gal sump. The controller is set at 79 degrees, but tank temp is 76.4.

3-5 watts per gallon, I prefer 5 watts, so you would need 900 watts total. Depends how many heaters you want to break it down to

EDIT: 800 watts will work for sure, thats 4.5 watts/gallon.

^This is what I do.

I only recently learn that the titanium heaters also function as a grounding probe, maybe something to think about when you're heater shopping.

How big is your display tank? 800 watts is a hot of heater, even with a controller.

I use 2 small 150 watt heaters on my 135 gal. I have central AC and an electric fireplace heater in case the central heat fails. I also have a couple extra heaters I can throw in if needed.

If one of my heaters gets stuck on, it won’t be strong enough to cook the tank.

It’s a 180 gal display. What about any of the newer technology heaters? Seems like some have their own controllers.

I use 2 300 watt digital heaters with on board control plugged into a dual probe INKBIRD controller to heat my 180g system.
Would you mind linking to what you use if possible? Thanks!

Love INKBIRD dual sensor approach. Having Wifi to my phone is great, app comes with charting and will send notifications if highs, lows are reached. You can also program the heater remotely and turn it off if you wish.

Do you use any kind of "typical" aquarium controller, like an Apex?

If one had an aquarium controller, would you still say using the Inkbird is a better solution than relying on the controller?

Sorry, can’t make that link work.
It’s the only dual probe, plastic covered controller by INKBIRD
