I am new to reefing for 1.5 years, but had saltwater fish only in a tank prior to that. I jumped into reefing by buying an already established reef tank and moving tank, water, and livestock all at once on a nice Watterbox 130.4 automated hydros with MP40s, reef mat, and Nyos skimmer I picked up from a guy exiting the country for only $2500. Still learning. I’ve had a few losses, but through research and good care I’ve added to the tank in the last year. I think the hobby is very enjoyable. Unfortunately, not everyone in my local community is kind and many are simply there to take advantage of new reefers. I’ve been through 1 algae bloom and none since that lesson learned. GFO and changing your Rodi filters is all you need to help with that along with monitoring all parameters, slow adjustments, and do not confuse Alk with Ph. Furthermore, trace elements do matter. I look forward to meeting everyone on the forums virtually. I may take a while to respond, but I am always willing to help new reefers.
