so i was in the hobby for about 5 years but ended up getting out of it due to circumstances over 4 years ago. but now i am back and just started a simple 20 gallon display tank that i found to fit a limited amount of space. it is 30 inches long and 8.5 wide and 16.5 inches tall. the space above is only about 5 inches so my light is going to need a good spread and low profile for being right above the tank. i just added 5 gallon bucket refugium with macro algae and cope pods. i also incorporated an algae scrubber system into the bucket. it then flows into the 10 gallon sump which is full of live rock, a cheap protein skimmer and my return pump. i have a better skimmer coming in the mail. a reef octopus nano that should fit just snugly in the sump. my new test kits are in the mail, red sea and nyos kits. got 2 new kps power-heads coming in the mail as well. with nearly 40 pounds of live rock in this simple system and an algae scrubber bucket, i am already having great success after 2 weeks. the rocks are all starting to grow coraline algea pretty rapid. i do have some coral frags in the tank but mostly soft and lps right now. i do have a well stocked tank of fish though. but so far, even the 2 sps frags i do have are happy. if i can keep up the micro diversity in my tank, i am sure it will do incredible.
