Hello everyone, I'm new too forums, new to tanking, and a "sponge" when it comes to learning new stuff ( any subject!).. I accell at research & info gathering /sorting /applying... So when friends of ours (long time salties!) gave us a 45 gal bowfont, and pretty much all the accessories needed to have our own tank, I started to educate myself ,,, the BF says they have created a monster ... o well! So, in my quest, I ran across someone selling a tank w/ some accessories, but what we were after was the LIVE ROCK included... so we took a road trip to get the tank ... we also took buckets so we could transport the already cycled water he had in the tank. So now we have two 45 gallon bowfronts, BUT there IS a plan! One will be corals and reef, the other rock and fish - best of both worlds, as I see it!
We put the water & rock in the tank, hooked up pump, (fish only will be on CF 400UV pump, reef will be sump w/skimmer & green machine uv) after a week, lots of algie still on rocks, BF decides to scrub with a soft brush... a day later, now that no more "GREEN FURRIES, noticed aiptasia, and a few kenyas popping up, ( didn't then kno what do NOW about aipts! and that the scrubbing was the WORST thing to have done - created MORE!)) so, added 6 berghia nudies to address this - 2 weeks later, added 5 snails (1 turbo, 4 astrea) ... also weekly water changes of about 6 gallons since inception... levels are ALL testing perfect w/ both reef test kit & regular salt kit, and have been for past 3 weeks.... understandable as no bioload has been introduced! So am feeling pretty confident about adding some livestock - want to get a pair of juvenile clowns, who will move to the REEF tank when it's up and running.
MY QUESTION HERE: Would this be ok to do? And can I / SHOULD I also get a BTA frag so they can "grow up" together as I REALLY want them to host. I don't want to rush things, but would like to move up to the next level.. we have a safe haven to relocate them to temporarily if needed, (the above mentioned friends / tank donor). He says it would be fine, but I'd like to hear some other opinions from y'all before making a decision! Thanx in advance, and I look forward to being a part of the Saltwater Community!
