Bristle worms will get different responses from different people. Most will say a good part of CUC. I have them and although I don't like seeing them, they serve a great purpose. They eat left over food. So the more you feed, the more you'll have. Their numbers will come and go.

If the worms are white and more like the width of a thread, with tiny hairs could be Dorvilleidae. They are good as well. Did it look like this?

Bristleworms are great clean up crew members. They eat leftover food, detritus, stir up the sand and keep the place clean. However, if they overpopulate and become huge that can be a problem. One other thing, the bristles can stick you and be quite painful, but not too worrisome.

Welcome to R2R . had them in my tank since the beginning, they can survive a nuclear Holocaust, nothing to worry about . just don't overfeed your fish , they will eat any left over food and overpopulate. They really don't bother anything.

Wow thank you everyone for all the wonderful responses!!!! I was a bit worried they were going to hurt my fish...... although they could have been in the tank for awhile and I didn’t know it! And there’s probably other things in there I’m not seeing when the lights are on :)

I was always amazed what would crawl out of the live rock even years after adding it.

Welcome to the Reef! Live rock is the proverbial box of chocolates. That’s what is so much fun, it keeps on giving surprises. Unfortunately sometimes the surprise turns out to be a cherry cream filled chocolate :confused:but you just roll with it. :)
If you are worried about the bristle worms or want to keep their populations in check I know a six line wrasse will eat them and perhaps the other wrasses will too but they (six line)can be aggressive. The two I’ve had were fine but some on here think they are a devil fish.
