Hello world,

I have just started my foray into the world of saltwater keeping with the blessing of my wonderful wife.

I have kept fresh water aquarium over the last decade. My current fresh water tank is a 10 gallon planted tanks with 2 rosy tetras, now 5 because of babies.

I have done some “research” into saltwater. I say “research” because watching YouTube isn’t really research. I have watched most of the BRSTV five minutes video as a primer to getting a tank.

I really wanted a 100+ gallon tank, but reality has better ideas. I budget $1000 for the hobby, but quickly realized that there is much more than just a tank and some gravel. So $1000 is the new price for just the getting started. Told my wife, that $1000 will be enough to get water into the tank and start cycling with dry rocks and sand. Warned her, that we gonna have to quadruple our budget over the next couple years, but she still enthusiastic about it.

My first commitment has been the Fluval 32 gallon all-in-one.

Why the Fluval? Price, being an all-in-one, and it fits the space.

Next steps? With a budget of $400 left over; getting sands, rocks, a heater, and anything I missed into the tank to start cycling. Oh yea, the water is gonna cost ~$32 off the bat.

Now to start my first build thread. Wish me luck.

The future:

Having a tank that is a little slice of ocean.

Hello, and welcome. Congratulations on the wife approval, That is the first big step.
Got that right! I got my wife's permission as well. So Greetings and Welcome to our collective obsession!!!!

If you aren’t already, I highly suggest you become a member of the Atlanta Reef Club. $30 for the year membership easily pays for itself in raffles at the meet ups. I won an AI Nero 3 at the holiday party last year that all members were entered into for free. There’s an event happening the first weekend of August as well, you should check it out if you’re able to.
