Remove the dry ice, if it is still in the tank, agitate that tank as much as possible, add air to strip the CO2 out of the water column. I was wondering how you got yellow pH. Your fish may already be dead. GL

Just found out that younger brother put about a cup of dry ice in tank- could this affect Oxygen levels?

Yes, dry ice has high co2 levels. Never place ice directly in the tank but place in plastic bags or tubs to prevent changes in salinity or other contamination. Not only is the PH effected but now the fish are struggling with low oxygen levels.

Dry ice is frozen CO2, so it would totally make sense. Why not just use dry ice or regular ice in a container floating on top of your water column.

Yep it's the dry ice for sure. Probably immediately dropped your pH and lowered your O2 levels. CO2 is deadly, which is why our body gets rid of it with every breath.

You need to aerate the water and do some water changes. That's the safest way to correct it IMO

It was never intended to cool the tank- I use regular ice made from RODI to cool. My 10 yo brother decided to put it in as a way to look cool for his friends who are at my house

Dont add any more buffer. Add an airstone and aerate the water as much as you can. Dry ice is almost pure CO2 so the water become oxygen deficient and CO2 rich. When you add the buffer it doesn't add oxygen but bring your pH up and Alk too. That can harm your tank too. So, just do water change and aerate using an airstone as much as you can.

I dont think you should keep on adding buffer, you should export CO2. Just keep on agitating the surface and it should slowly bounce back; you can also pour small amount of Peroxide.

Point your powerheads at the surface or move it higher closer to the surface.

Do you have a pump you use for waterchages or something. Set is at the top of the water so it sucks air and spits out tiny bubbles into the tank.

If you dont have an airstone then point your powerhead towards the top of the water level so that it breaks the water surface this will increase O2 exchange too.

An airstone and water change is your best friend in current condition.

What in the world would compel your brother to do something like that? Better question where in the heck did he get a cup of dry ice??

Also if the house is air conditioned you probably want to turn that off and open all windows around the tank. Just make sure it doesn't get any hotter.
