Since about a month ago I have problems with the Cyano, first started out on the rocks, then appeared in the sand.

It is the first time in 2 years of having marine aquarium that I have this problem and I am not sure what to do to eliminate it.

My tank measures 59x23,50x20, I use for about 5 months ago two Vortech Mp40QD, one on each side of the tank, I have used 4 modules Ai Prime for more than a year.

My parameters are:

No3: 1 ppm, Red Sea test
Po4: 0.08 ppm, Res Sea test
Ca: 460ppm, Red Sea Test.
Kh: 8.0 dKh, Hanna checker.
Mg: 1280 ppm, Red Sea Test.

The only change I made in the last month was to start using Rowaphos, before this I used PhosBan from two Little Fishies.

In January change from Nopox to Vodka, but the No3 never suffered major alterations, the highest they reached were 5ppm in the month of January.

Last Tuesday I used Red Slime Remover from Ultralife without any result, last night I used a second dose but I do not see it improving.

A month ago I started to use a calcium reactor but I do not know if it is possible that this will influence anything.

What can be the cause of this outbreak?

What can I do to eliminate it?

Regards.

It is being caused by the vodka dosing I think. Try reducing the amount being dosed.

In my opinion your no3 and po4 are not very high so may not really need the vodka.

Ok, i try reducing vodka dosing. How many i reduce? Half ir more.
I'm not familiar with the correct dosing amounts for your tank. Half is probably best.
You should look at Randy Farley vodka dosing charts and make sure you are dosing the right amount.

Cyano is a very common complaint from vodka.
Vinegar is not as strong and usaully people don't get the cyano.

The cyano did not die from the slime remover because I think it is a different kind of cyano called spirulina.
If you change your dosing it should fade and you should be able to clean it with siphoning it out and blowing it off.

Thank you, I will change the vodka for the vinegar.

In my case that No3: 1ppm should I follow the vinegar table or can I keep a low dose?

I would use a very low dose. You don't seem to have a high nutrint problem.

There are several types of spirulina as well as cyano bacteria.
One type of spirulina is used for food.
One kind of cyano is lime green.

One question, hydrogen peroxide may be a treatment option to remove cyano / spirulina?

How is the dose of hydrogen peroxide?

Are there different concentrations of hydrogen peroxide or all the same?

Thanks, I've been looking for the thread but I can not find it. If you have the link I would appreciate it a lot.

And a tip I use. Google search the subject and Reef2Reef. It works better than the

Thank you, I finished reading the whole thing.

I tried to make a query but it tells me the forum that I do not have enough privileges to write in the subject.

How do I differentiate between cyano and spirulina?

If I use h2O2 and it's spirulina, I'm not going to lose anything and I can win a lot. But it is recommended by some users to add chemiclean, to treat spirulina, in my case I used UltraLife Red Slime Remover and had no effect whatsoever, it indicates that it is cyano?

I would still just wait it out personally. If you are no longer directly feeding it it should fade away. I'm not big on using one thing to cure another thing that may cause something else.

I belive you put the cyano in a cup with peroxide and if it fades it cyano. If not it's spirulina.

I'm afaraid I'm not familiar enough with that product. I looked at it but it really doesn't say what it is.
