Starting this morning I noticed my female clownfish was acting out of character and not eating... I didn't think too much of it but was wondering if something she has on her could be the cause?.. I'll post pics with this and try to get a good picture but basically what she has is not ich or velvet. I've seen both so I know, but what she has is like something protruding from her body. It looks like a dot but not a dot like ich. Also after doing a water change today to get copper out since it marked 30 days of copper treatment for ich. We then put some chloroquine phosphate in the tank since we have a clown trigger that had the same type of spots and the CP helped him. And after a few hours the dots are like stringy and coming off her body in some spots. I just would like to figure out what this is and know if we're treating it with the right stuff and also just help her because I can tell she isn't doing good.. She's also very thin and yesterday she was happy and fat so I have no idea what could be causing this.. I've circled the spots on her and the stringy one also the appearance of them on her body is like a fuzzy coating kinda if that makes since.

Thanks for any advice, I just hope she gets better..

Looks like ich. Could be brook. Could be an infection. Can you give a more clear picture of the treatment this tank and these clowns have gone through to date please? From the start of treatment to now, what have you done for them? What meds did you use, how long and what concentrations did you use? Thanks!

Ok before I go into full detail of what the tank has gone through, I'd like to know if ich can get stringy? Or any other disease? Because I would know if it was ich I'm not sure about brook because I've never seen it personally but it's just on the upper and lower portion of her body and like I said it's like protruding from her body.

I guess I'll go ahead and tell what the tank has been through. I had to go ask and make sure I was right before I posted it on here but at the very beginning there was some kanaplex and MS in the tank but both those were taken out and after copper was put in the tank for the full thirty days. The copper stayed at therapeutic levels the whole time, I checked every two days. Since today we did a big water change to get the copper out and put chloroquine phosphate in the tank about maybe 8 scopes from a tiny measuring spoon I'll have to check on the measurement of the spoon if that's needed. But in all that's all that's been in the tank and the clown fish had a fresh water dip before going into QT also all the other fish have no signs of anything, the female is the only one showing signs of something.

typically I'd say no, but brook can oftentimes become stringy and look as if the skin is peeling off at times. How long ago did these symptoms show up?

Yes I understand where some will think it's ich from the angle it's at but I can't get a good picture from head on and if I could you can tell how it's just protruding from her body kinda like a zit.

Well they've kinda been there for awhile, I'd say maybe almost two weeks. The male I believe had them and they went away like the next day. But they've stayed on the female, relatively in the safe spot but today was the first day I've seen it look stringy and the strings are pretty long. One fell off just a few mins ago.

After looking at her again the appearance is also kinda like what dead skin would look like when it's peeling off, like some is just hanging there off her body. So that's why I said in the first post that it looked like a fuzzy appearnece.

It really seems like brook. Your clowns have been able to fend it off for a while, but copper doesn't treat it.... that may be why CP helped the clown trigger when he showed these symptoms since CP will treat brook. It could also be an infection of some sort though.

I believe that's what it might be after looking at some pictures. It looks like it because she has that fuzzy look to her body, and yeah he had like the same testure to his body and it went basically right away after we added CP. But alright since it's only the first day CP was added I'll have to keep an eye on it but if it could be an infection how should we go about identifying it and treating it? But I'm leaning more towards brook now..

Also since she's like not covered in it, could we have caught it early? I've never dealt with brook so I don't know how long it lasts or what's the likely hood of it killing the fish?

If it's an infection the CP will do nothing for it. After a few days of NO improvement at all, then you can move to antibiotics. Kanaplex, furan2 as examples.

Brook can kill very quickly after symptoms show. Most of the time, if they are showing signs it can be a 50/50 shot of them surviving it. A freshwater dip can help them survive long enough for the CP to help and so can an acryflavin dip.

Alright will do if nothing changes.

Oh wow.. ok well she's had the dots for some time now like I said so hopefully it's just not a bad case of it or maybe it's just an infection at this point I'm not 100% sure but im leaning more towards brook.. I'll do a freshwater dip tomorrow if symptoms change because right now all she's doing is not eating and hovering in one spot and she looks thin. But she has chased after the food once today so I don't think she's suffering but just in some discomfort maybe.. so I'm not too stressed over it but more just wanting to see if CP helps any if at all, and then go from there.

Should we extend the QT time now since there could be brook? We weren't going to take them out of QT till around February sometime but if needs to be extended it's fine. I would just like to know for how long?

Depends on how long it takes to clear them of this. You might be able to stay on schedule.
