Help regarding Cyano

So the "last dose" for the 14 day period is going in today. When i started dosing I noticed some progress in the cyano. Now 14 days later the cyano is coping with the h2o2 and seems to be back with a vengence... Im at a make it or break it point at the moment. Im completely lost on what i should do. I tried chemi-clean before my vaccation 4 weeks ago, and now 14 days with h2o2. Neither seem to affect it much.

Any tips before i go boonkers?

Been doing 1 ml per 8 gallon the last few days with no effect at all after i went from 1 ml per 10 to 1 per 8 gallons.

I think you have a nutrient imbalance. Others have said they fixed their cyano issue just by dosing nitrates and doing h202 or other fixes.

Funny think is that the cyano came along when i started dosing KNO3. Brought my NO3 to ~0.5 and had it steady by a doser. I discontinued the KNO3 dosing 4 days ago in the hope it would help.

If you are not seeing a noticeable difference then my best guess is spirulina
This needs to be looked at under a microscope

Which i dont have access to unfortunately. My previous post also indicates thats its not spirulina (pink water, did the test 4 days ago http://reef2reef.com/threads/help-regarding-cyano.259137/page-4#post-3124513)

It is common to have both spirulina and cylindrospermum together. This is my thought on this.
H2O2 kills cylindrospermum but does not touch spirulina
If it has been over 14 days of h2o2 try the test again. This will help rule out cylindrospermum.
Wish you were in the states so I could put it under the scope :)

So I had a seemingly unwinnable battle with this back a year ago. Vaccumed my sand and it killed it off. Came back 2 months ago, worked again. I also had near zero NO3 and PO4 at these times as well.

Oddly enough, went to Fiji for my honeymoon for 2 weeks, came back to .22 PO4 and 50ppm NO3 and nothing (but browned corals and a mother in law who needs a lesson in moderate feedings).

@twilliard I redid the h2o2 test now. Took samples all over the tank, water is pink and its dying off. All fine and dandy. So my conclution is that something is detering the h2o2 in my tank.

I can think of two things in my tank rendering the h2o2 useless.

* As previously stated a run a 24/7 lighted fuge, Would the light from the fuge ruin the h2o2?
* I have bag with gac in my return area, where i also dose the h2o2. Does gac impact on the h2o2?

This is perplexing
There is something biological within your water that is splitting the h2o2 at a rapid pace.
Since it is being dosed every 12 hours I doubt there is a connection to the refugium. My tests were also conducted with a 24 hour lit refugium.
What comes to mind is a high organic state of the water.
By chance to you monitor ORP?

ORP monitoring will show you exactly how long the h2o2 stays active in the water.
With a high organic content the h2o2 will break down rapidly in the water with the result of h2o
A caveman way of testing for organics is to do my Ph test.
With a reagent Ph test kit (I use elos) do your normal test but this time keep it capped and note the time. When it turns yellow note how many hours have passed.
If you are under 12 hours you have a high organic load.

@twilliard would you mind explaining what you mean by high organic content? I'm having a very similar problem as the OP, with the test indicating cyano but 9 days into dosing and it's getting worse. I am dosing large amounts of NO3 and PO4 into the system to keep my nutrients positive. Could this be breaking down the H2O2?

Yes organics breaks down h2o2
If you are dosing both no3 and po4 then the h2o2 is breaking down before it has a chance to do its thing. ORP will show this.
For most people who are not seeing results against the cyanobacteria they are not dosing correctly or enough.
