Hello,

I have a FijiCube 32EXT with an AI Prime 16 HD. I have been using a profile I found online ( can't remember which one ) for several months but have never really gotten much coral growth. Even before this tank I had a 28gallon AIO with a similar lighting schedule and didn't see much if any coral growth. I am trying to figure out if my lighting might be the source of the lacking growth.

My tank is primarily LPS and Softies.

Attached is a picture of the tank and of my current profile. The light currently hangs ~10 inches above the tank.

If anyone has a similarly sized tank with LPS and softies and has had good growth with an AI Prime 16HD I would love to know what settings you are running / if you are dosing anything.

I have been considereing moving over to the BRS A/B settings but am not sure how well they will work on my tank.

Thanks,
Nathan

I have the same light over a slightly bigger cube and changed to the BRS recommended A/B settings about 3 months ago and have noticed an improvement. Can't speak for longterm use but I have definitely noticed a difference in growth and the corals seem happier. I also rented a PAR meter a few weeks ago to really nail down my numbers and I found that I had to adjust the fixture position by a few inches to get better PAR throughout the whole tank. It was about 12 inches over the water and now it is about 8 or 9. Wish I had done all that sooner!

Here is my personal Google Drive folder with 67 Different profiles made by different people.

AI Prime HD x67 Schedules

I run the J's Reef Profile for my mixed reef. You can also find all of the BRS settings, AB+ Settings and just about anything imaginable.

I like the dips in this profile because it kind of simulates rolling cloud cover.

Wow that is a lot of profiles! Would you recommend the one you run for a LPS / Softie only tank? I don't plan on having any SPS corals?

The BRS recommended settings are for the HD I believe not the 16HD!
They've not yet released the recommended settings for the new fixture. The best way I can think of is to use the settings they recommend for the hydra 32 as it has the same ratio of LEDs.
It's how I'm going to run mine until the video is released.
@randyBRS does this seem a legit idea?

Sure, just run at a lower total percentage to acclimate then. My lights are 9 inches off the water and I run at 100% for the SPS I have.

I have a low light pearl bubble in the corner and it does fine even at 100%.

Technically, if you run 100% blues and purples that is the desired color for prime photosynthesis in most corals.

I've found in my experience that SPS desire more complete color profile such as the cool white.

In that drive folder I don't see a profile called J's reef. Is it Joe's Reef_by_Anthoy.aip?

Sorry, it's listed as this in the folder:
Ai_Jsreefs_signature_Setting

Just remember it will be very blue, between all hours but 12-3 where it will whiten up and then gradually go back to the blues. From 8-12 it is blues only.

I just bought my Prime 16HD reef lamp yesterday. I set it up at 75% uv, violet, royal, blue; 5% green 10%red, and 19% white. I have a softie tank with gap, a few carpet anems and a bta. Duncan, hammers, and a loony tunes montepora. Cant wait to see how my zoas do. They haven't been happy in a while. I can't seem to find anyone else with a 20 gal pico and this lamp with settings listed.

Yeah, my struggle has always been that there are 100's of configs across these forums but finding one that is tailored to your size tank and stocking is tricky. I wish the configs were categorized by coral stocking and tank size.

I have been using the Jsreef profile for a few days now and noticed that it is really only at peak brightness for 2 hours vs the BRS settings which runs at peak for nearly the entire time. Have you adjusted your profile to have a longer peak duration? Do you think 2 hours is enough for my tank?

Funny you should ask.

I've recently been going over all the BRS Investigates episodes looking at info for AI Prime 16 and Hydra 32/64.

I've recently watched the latest episode about the Hydra 32 and with all that information + the additional information on the Primes, I've adjusted my light schedule to what their recommend balance and time is for my mixed reef.

The issue that I have with BRS is that they either test an LPS/Softie or SPS tank, they don't do a mixed reef.

So, looking at both charts for LPS and SPS I split the difference and then adjusted my white light balance until I looked the look since it doesn't really have an effect on growth. I prefer a slight blue tint, just enough so that my reds still look red and my orange still looks orange. Well pretty close, lol.

BRS recommends a PEAK photo period of 9 hours with a ramp of 30 minutes.

I set my new template up so that I have only low light blues a little longer than 9 and I have very dim moonlight set up.

I increased total wattage since I'm running 16s and not 32s. I kept the color balance as they recommended though.

Reef2reef doesn't have .aip as an allowed extension so at the moment I can't upload it. I'll put it in the Google drive later and name it BRS Modified 2020.
