Hi all,
I'm planning for the arrival of my new tank, 60x22x24", approx. 110 gallons. The tank will be eurobraced with a large internal oveflow box on the back wall. Return lines will exit out the sides of the overflow at the top. I'm planning for a mixed reef setup. I'm thinking of putting a pair of Tunze powerheads on the sides of the overflow box for circulation, as shown below. This would be the least obtrusive place to install them, but would this create an effective flow pattern? I'm looking at the Tunze 6105 or 6255 Eco. Are the 6255s overkill for this tank? Appreciate the help!

I broke down some of the numbers on these, vs. your current pair of Tunse 6065 powerheads:

Current 6065 powerheads (1,700gph):
3,400gph combined at 100% output, ~33 max display turnovers per-hour…

6105 powerheads (793-3170gph):
~4,000gph combined at 50% power output, ~6,300gph at 100% output, ~57 max display turnovers per-hour…

6255 powerheads (1,321-4,491gph):
~5,800gph combined at 50% power output, ~9,000gph combined at 100% output, ~82 max display turnovers per-hour…

— there’s also the dual returns/pumps, and RFGs… let’s tack on 10-15 total hourly display turnovers to any one of those powerhead numbers above… primarily from the multiple RFGs eductor effects, and secondarily from the pumped return water itself!

hopefully this helps?

Thanks for the math, but I don't know if those numbers answer my question. How many turnovers/hour do I need? At this point I'm more concerned about the placement of the pumps and whether the location I have in mind will produce a good flow pattern in the tank.

I saw a video of the 6255 Eco, the guy had a single pump at one end of a 6' peninsula tank and it produced crazy flow in the entire tank. Couldn't find a comparable video of the 6105s. If I had the 6255s I wouldn't run them at 100% but not sure I need that much flow.

Yes there will be dual return pumps (Red Dragon 5 Eco 25W x 2) with RFGs, and BTW my current powerheads are 6055s. 😉

A sea sweep or a new Tunze ORCA with one powerhead would work. 2 would be better.
My 60×30×21
2 6255 powerheads running a little over min is all I will ever need. They are very strong pumps.

I run 2 6255's on my 59×30×21.
They are on Sea Sweeps.
Plenty of power and reach in a 5' system.
2 Tunze ORCA's with 6105's would be ideal in your system.
Check my build if you want to see them.

Thanks for that X-37B. Yes I did see your build, its very very nice! But I don't want ORCAs. Just a pair of either 6105s or 6255s. Do you think the 6105s would be good in my system without the ORCAs or would the 6255s be a better choice?

For that width tank 2 6105's will work well. The 6255's could be used if you need this type of possible water movement. They are quite strong.

What did you end up doing with this? I am trying to figure out something similar in my tank that I just posted about. My tank is 48x25x25

Nothing yet. I'm still waiting for my new tank to arrive. I did pose the same question in another thread, and received this reply from Roger Vitko at Tunze. He suggested 6075s or maybe 6105s. I haven't decided yet but am leaning toward the 6105s as some folks in this thread suggested that the flow from the 6075s was not very strong, plus that is what was advised above!
