Hello everyone!
I’m really new to reef tanks, I’ve just swapped over from freshwater aquariums, and i have a really dumb question.
I’m running a giesseman 1x150w white for a cube tank, 45x45cm, which it s pretty nice but I rlly like that pop which you get from blue light and i m looking for a way to either complement the lights that i currently have with some blue LED s (i saw some pretty nice lights from tunze) or a way to transform the with light into blue light (ie passing the light trough a blue glass or simply painting the lamp s glass with a thin layer of blue)

What kelvin is your bulb? 6500k is the lowest and the whitest. I personally prefer 14k, but they were out of stock so now I use the 20k, which is the higher and the bluest.

For my 150w system I use 2 x orphek OR3 bars as supplement, I only have them running in the evening.

I think it’s 20k, but it’s full white

ya to me too it looks white lol.

But I can say that going from the 14k to the 20k, I did see the difference at first for a few days. But I guess my eyes have acclimated it just looks white now.

The thing is i like the blue lighting and I’m thinking of either buying a blue bulb (but i don’t want to lose any par for my corals, i don’t know if it’s the same characteristics as the one i have) or getting a set of blue LEDs and run the simultaneously to make the fluorescence pop

Another option would be to run the white lights for coral growth for 7hrs (11:30-18:30) like I do now and just turn on blue lights for a few hours after purely for display purposes

Thats exactly what I do, the MH runs during the day while I work. It runs from 9:30am to 7pm (9.5 hours), the orpheks run from 6 pm to 10pm for viewing pleasure.

What do you mean lose par? Remember the way humans see light has nothing to with par output. A blue light will look dimmer but may have the same or more useful par for the coral

Noted. So switching to a blue-light bulb would not affect my corals whatsoever. Also is it recommended to run something to simulate moonlight or just 8hrs/day of light are enough?

I run T5 six bulb. I have 4 blue+ bulbs 1 true actinic which the human eye can hardly see compared to white light, and one coral+ for my white light. It is just off and on. I run 12 hours light 12 hours full dark. Everything else is fluff.
