So the last two weeks ish my LPs have been receading. And I don’t know why. I have been testing and everything seems fine. Nothing new to the tank that could have threw it off BESIDES dosing silica and microbactor 7 for Dino’s. The Dino’s were never very bad. Just wanted to stay on top of them. I have since stopped.

I have dines this before a few months ago and it didn’t seem to harm the corals. I have zoas and they seem… fine? They’re not exploding or anything but they’re growing. I have to greens go is that are both not doing well. One hasn’t opened in a long time. The other barely opens. My frogspawns and hammers open but don’t seem fluffy. Their flesh band has been receding slowly.

Calcium - 440-460
Alk - 8-9
Magnesium - 1200-1230
Phosphate - 0?
Nitrates were around 40. They were high. This was 2/25/26 a few days ago.

Today I didn’t test anything but nitrates before a water change. They were around 20. Also the tank is almost a year old

How long have you had the corals? Have they ever grown or new polyps grown? What is your light and intensity?

I think it is definitely a nitrate and phosphate issue. The gonipora also looks like it has algae growing around it. If you can do some slow water changes to get the nitrates down and dose some phosphate slowly to increase that, they should balance out. Do everything slow though! Luckily the receding that I can see has algae so it’s been like that for a little while at least, but they definitely won’t be happy with high nitrates and zero phosphates. Especially that goni!

I have had one for a year and it has grown new heads. These are almost all a year in the tank. Light is Ai prime 16HD about 8” off the water surface. Running penny wise headlight 71% for about a year also. I just moved it from 8” to 10” TODAY to maybe help with spectrum blending. But I don’t think the light is a problem

I just saw the nitrate update which is good! Make sure to keep monitoring water quality to keep it stable and everything should start to look better once those stay at a good place. Also make sure to test the phosphate to make sure that gets up a little!

Do you think I can dose reed foods for my phosphates? I just did a water change today because I saw the high nitrates. And want to get it down. I did a water change about 3 days ago as well. So I think I’m around 20ish. It’s hard to see with the API test. And phosphate have been super low almost seems like 0 with the API test.

So water changes to reduce nitrate and can I use reef roofs for phosphate?

I would HIGHLY recommend getting a better test kit at least for nitrate and phosphate because those are really important to notice sensitive changes. I also recommend only doing water changes as necessary because if you have good nitrates but zero phosphates it will be really hard for them to balance out. You can use reef roids, but be super careful that it doesn’t spike to high. I prefer Brightwell’s Neo-phos. And only dose in small amounts as you are testing to make sure you don’t over dose.

I also have a bubble magus mini q skimmer that’s always ran. Should I also just leave that running?

Actually the opposite! If you turn it off for a little that should help increase your phosphates! Again it’s super important to keep testing to know where they are at, but fish poop is one of the best ways to increase phosphates!

The tank looks quite large. Just to give you an idea, I have AI Prime on a 15 gallon tank set at 85%, so I will just politely put out the idea that perhaps it might be worth it to rent a par meter. Good luck

Ok tank is an innovative marine Nuvo fuision 20
ya so not the light, the flow should be fine with the powerheads, and you have nutrients in the water so I'm out of idea's, @ReefSquad might have some idea's for you.

However I will say that when I beat my dino's, my corals didn't grow or look great for months, it took about 5-6 months for my corals to fully recover and start thriving again. I don't know how bad your dino's case was but that might have something to do with it. Anyway wish you good luck
