Desperate for some advice. I’ve had my tank for about two years. I will admit I have gotten lazy about cleaning it lately. I am now tackling lots of algae on the bottom of my tank. I just did a water change and scraped a ton of the algae out of the bottom. What can I do?

55G tank
Protein skimmer
Filter
2 powerheads

Stock
2 clowns
1 snowflake eel
Few crabs and snails
Tube anemone
Few other corals

I'd test for phosphates with a proven brand.
Like the Hanna ULR checker.

If your phos is high. I'd tumble GFO in it's own reactor.

But... Start off well below the recommended dose, so that you phos comes down slow and dose not shock you reef.

Many ways to skin a cat, but I do love GFO, when used in the proper manner.

I'd starting reading up on Vodka+Vinegar dosing.

I had 25ppm nitrates in May.

I added Dr Tim's Waste Away (per the instructions) over 4 doses

Then started a 50/50 mix of one shostglass full of vodka 80 proof + one shotglass full of 3% vinegar in June. Once a day, every morning

6 weeks later. Very little algae and no3 at about 1-2ppm

I'm now continuing the vodka/vinegar dosing now until the end of time bc corals I thought were 98% dead have made a MAJOR comeback. Im amazed, like a.m.a.z.e.d.

Sorry for double post, thought I put this in the wrong section so I reposted.

I’m going to try getting a toothbrush and getting stuff cleaned up in addition to adding some more snails.
