Hi Twilliard,

Please help, I would like to treat my tank with fish fenbendazole (Amazon). I currently have a 90 gallon tank with 40 gallon sump. I currently have the following pest:

Colonial Hydroids (same as triggreef's picture)
Digitate Hydroids (white thing that extends out)
Clear Hydroid (I can see upside down jelly growing from it)
Upside down Jellyfish
Vermetid Snails

My live stock are the following:
fishes
zoas
green star polyps
sps

Inverts
hermit crabs
Sexy Shrimp
Turbo snail (will be affected)
Margarita snail (will be affected)
Cerith snail (will be affected)
Trochus snail (will be affected)
Nerite snail (will be affected)
Nassarius Snail (will be affected)

Clean up crew
Spaghetti worm
Mysis shrimp
Copepods
Amphipods
Mini brittle stars (will be affected)
Mini feather duster

I know you ordered fish fenbendazole, but not sure if you had a chance to test the product yet. If you have, please help with the following questions:
1. How much to dose?
2. Will fenbendazole take care of all the hydroids, jellyfish, and maybe vermetid snails?
3. Which live stock, inverts, and cleanup crew will get affected?

Thank you
Sorry I almost missed this!
Yes the fish Bendazole is 250 mg packets of fenbendazole good for 175 gallons.
Now I am not sure about jellyfish and it does a great job against vermetid snails. May not get them all but puts a big dent in them.
Fenbendazole is some serious stuff but works as long as people understand it will be several months before snails and starfish can go back in.

Oops I see my error! Sorry about that yes the 4g packets for the safeguard
The fish Bendazole 250mg packets are good for 175 gallons
It's about 1.5mg per gallon (1.4 to 1.6 doesn't have to be exact )

Thank you very much @twilliard, that puts my mind at ease.

Although your 4gram pack (888mg fenbendazole) for 125 gallon tank still doesn't add up. Look to me like you've converted to Litres somewhere along the way.

I'll just work with the 1.5mg/gal for now.

Thanks again.

The 4 gram pack has 222mg of fenbendazole but more comes out to 200 mg after separation

Thank you Twilliard. We keep this thread posted when I start treatment this weekend.

Looks like as good a place as any to ask... I have to admit that in years not had a hydroid problem that I've known of anyway. I just recently noticed these and thought they were feather dusters. Now I'm not so sure and they are spreading profusely in the tank. I also have to say I have not seen them bothering anything so far and have not seen any sign on glass. I've been looking at them with some high mag reading glasses I got a while back for examining frags and finally tried to get some pics. I do see what looks like a fairly distinct brown tube, in the mid right leading me to think maybe still feather dusters. Plus I can make out the brown tube elsewhere when I look. Hopefully not just wishful thinking. If they are I guess its time for a copperband to do some cleanup.

I do believe those are a family of worms. They catch food and will roll the arm into its mouth.

Thanks... I've had small dusters before but just never seen them spread so fast and have an odd fan. That group in picture is maybe a couple inches of a 6ft tank crawling with them.

Uhh, I give up.

This is how I see it.

1 gram safe guard = 222mg fenbendazole and 778mg of other "stuff"

4 gram safe guard = 888mg fenbendazole and 3112mg of other "stuff".

I don't understand how you only get 200mg from a 4 gram pack that contains 888mg

Anyway. This is all irrelevant to me as the Panacur granules I bought are completely different from the safe guard granules. It's all a powder - not able to separate. So it looks like I need to find another source of fenbendazole as I have no idea what the other "stuff" is.

Lol

It clearly says "pouch size - 4 gram net weight.

And also clearly states 222mg per gram.

The dosage unit is 1 gram, not 4 gram. I.e 222mg/g

It just doesn't add up and seems like an obvious error IMO but I won't bang on.

It's nice to know the dosage should be 1.5mg per gallon and that also 7mg per gallon is also safe (ish).

Thanks buddy.

@twilliard

Hi mate.

Do you think having hydrogen Peroxide in the tank at time of dosing would reduce the effectiveness off the drug?

Actually it may help as the h2o2 may be an effective method in addition with fenbendazole. Never tested though.

Ok. Well something is happening.

All the zoas have gone small and most are closed.

I'm due to do the 20% change at midnight tonight.

I've turned white lights off also

The peroxide has been dosed automatically to the tank for the last 2 weeks.

The reaction has come since I added the panacur last night

Sorry to keep asking questions @twilliard. With regards to dip treatment do you have any more information. I.e strength of dip and how long to dip in order to kill the hydra?

When to mix up fish meal: When was the last time you tried a different brand of food for your reef?
