I did the Fenbendazol treatment. It killed every snail in my tank and the sea stars. That was the bad news the good news is that you do not need to add this stuff to your tank directly. I used the Fenbendazol in a bucket with a medium dry rock. I let it sit for 48 hours in this bucket of RO water and Fenbendazol. I then removed all carbon and stopped the skimmer and placed the rock from the bucket in the tank and 24 hours later removed the rock and started up the skimmer and added carbon. By the next day all soft coral pest xanias, GSP and such were nearly all gone. 1 week later the tank was clear and I did a 20% water change and that was all I did. All zoa, sps, shrooms, and lps were okay. The skimmer worked hard and had double the amount of skim. I also changed the carbon every week for a month. More bad news the pest soft corals returned 9 months later and I am ready to do it again. This time I am collecting my snails first.

I didn't read every post but fenbendazol has the potential to kill Elasmos as well. Not sure whose really keeping anything like that in their reefs but maybe someone with. Fowlr is wanting to try it. Just a heads up.

I work at a public aquarium. We ended up having UC Davis develop a test for it. Gnarly stuff. So follow directions to the T!!

Snails are susceptible to fenbendazole this was noted.
Turbo snails are highly susceptible
When a hydroid issues becomes out of hand then all steps and warnings need to be followed before using fenbendazole.

Hi Twilliard, a couple of questions if I may please.

If I dose this in my tank with no wanted snails or starfish present is it completely safe?

What creatures are on its hit list?

Has anyone actually crashed their tanks using it?

I've been looking into this for a while now, at first because I had vermatid snails and now because I've seen a few hydras pop up but I'm put off as I can't deal with another crash.

My tanks full of zoas and LPS. I would really have a bad time If it hurt my zoas.

I'm sure people have crashed tanks with this but only from human error or lack of direction.
The only animals I know of that may be harmed are the ones listed.
Nothing in my tanks have died from it besides a few species of snails.
No harm to zoanthids or any of the lps I had.

Something must be missing from the thread as I've read it over 3 times and can't see the list of what it kills. Some suggesting about snails starfish and long stem softies but that's it.

Thank you. I have read this before, actually I think I have it bookmarked.

I couldn't be sure how bad the zoas got knocked from the article but I'll do some testing in QT tank first and work it out.

It's in my original writeup of stuff that will have to go into qt.
On top of that I need to add starfish to the qt list.

Cool thanks.

I assume then that the scarlet hermits are ok. I can catch stars, turban snails and ceriths. I don't think I'll be able to get all the nas snails though.

I'm in the UK and I don't think I can get safe guard but I can get something called panacur. Can anyone offer advise on whether this is suitable. It's in a liquid form but I think it's available as a paste or powder also.

I think I can get one called fish bendazole also But it's a lot more expensive and I'll have lots left over.

With that low of a percentage I am unsure of its effectiveness

On the product info it says 1ml = 100mg of fenbendazole.

I was working on 1mg per Gallon of tank water so for 50 Gallon tank I add 0.5ml

Hi Twilliard,

Please help, I would like to treat my tank with fish fenbendazole (Amazon). I currently have a 90 gallon tank with 40 gallon sump. I currently have the following pest:

Colonial Hydroids (same as triggreef's picture)
Digitate Hydroids (white thing that extends out)
Clear Hydroid (I can see upside down jelly growing from it)
Upside down Jellyfish
Vermetid Snails

My live stock are the following:
fishes
zoas
green star polyps
sps

Inverts
hermit crabs
Sexy Shrimp
Turbo snail (will be affected)
Margarita snail (will be affected)
Cerith snail (will be affected)
Trochus snail (will be affected)
Nerite snail (will be affected)
Nassarius Snail (will be affected)

Clean up crew
Spaghetti worm
Mysis shrimp
Copepods
Amphipods
Mini brittle stars (will be affected)
Mini feather duster

I know you ordered fish fenbendazole, but not sure if you had a chance to test the product yet. If you have, please help with the following questions:
1. How much to dose?
2. Will fenbendazole take care of all the hydroids, jellyfish, and maybe vermetid snails?
3. Which live stock, inverts, and cleanup crew will get affected?

Thank you

I have been getting a lot of questions about dosing.
This is what works best for me and my opinion based on trial and error.

1-4mg packet will treat 125 gallons.

I use this when using as a dip. 1 scoop per 3 gallons in a 5 gallon bucket
1443460835991-2008433591.jpg

Most people should have these laying around from test kits (red sea)

Please be aware that the powder in the packet is not to be used in aquariums

This has really confused me.

I was working on dosing at 1-2mg per gallon as per max draco's write up.

If your saying a 4 gram pack treats 125 gallon then that's 4 x 222mg.

888mg for 125 gallon = 7.1mg / gallon.

Is that correct. Can you please confirm the dosage in mg per gallon @twilliard ?

If using the packet 1 will treat 125 gallons of water. The 4mg packet.
I quite using the packets because you can purchase 100% fenbendazole packs

4mg packet? (Confused)

The only packets I can see are 1, 2 and 4 'gram' packets.

Ok so if I go ahead and buy the fish Benzadole which, afaik, is pure fenbendazole. What would you recommend for a dosage in mg/gallon please @twilliard ?

Oops I see my error! Sorry about that yes the 4g packets for the safeguard
The fish Bendazole 250mg packets are good for 175 gallons
It's about 1.5mg per gallon (1.4 to 1.6 doesn't have to be exact )
