How many gallons?
What are your nitrate and phosphate levels?
There are many ways to solve algae issues. Fish that eat algae are not required. Snails, emerald crabs and urchins are great. Manual removal of algae is also key.
Welcome to Reef2reef... To answer your question and this is me not knowing your tank size. Tangs eat algae, however they get big. I have a tommini tang personally and he loves him some algae. If you are broke and need to get something considerably cheaper, try some inverts. Mexican turbo snails, sea hare (If you have ALOT of algae), any clean up crew inverts should help you out at a lot more affordable rate... Wish you luck and feel free to ask me anymore questions...

As we all know algae is inevitable in both Marine and fresh water aquariums and if not watched and without proper procedures for removal can quickly turn a beautiful aquarium in to something that resembles a scene out of a old Swamp thing episode. Some are easy to control some are a non stop...
Is your tank at or near a window? This will do it as UV from sun is strong, even if blinds are closed. You can also reduce white light intensity which will help.
