My female clown has what looks to be an abrasion on its side. The scales seem raised and the wound, if that's what it is, appears brown in color.

If not a physical wound, what could this be? What other things might manifest like this?

Will try for a better pic when I can.

Yeah a better picture will be needed no matter what. In the mean time, can you give us a little background on your little guy? How long have you had him? When did the "wound" appear? Have any of your fish been QT'd? Is there a fish that picks on the clown... maybe a particularly crabby female? Anything in the tank that stings... nems, lps ect?

Ive had her for three years, she and a bonded male; the only two clowns in my 150. Ive never seen her spat with any of my other fish, including a scopas, starry blenny, potters wrasse, royal gramma, orchid dottyback, a couple of sapphire damsels, a tailspot Blenny and four lyretail anthias. If there were any suspect in fish, perhaps the scopas and its scalpels.

I do have three BTA's, but the clowns have never shown any interest. I have a large galaxia, and a chalice with long sweepers, but again, I've never seen the clown go near them. In fact, the female clown only comes out to eat, and stays mostly in a sheltered corner, nesting. The male is even more of a recluse, and seems to stay in the corner/nest area.

This is the second day that Ive noticed the blemish, although I may have seen something similar on it before, months ago, in a little different location. That seemed to clear up.

I haven't added any fish in nine months or so, and do not QT; only temperature acclimate.

Edit: I have been feeding later and later in the evening, not able to give the tank as much attention recently. There seems to be more frenzied eating as a result it seems.

Thanks! I love it when we can get good detailed info! It does look like an injury or a scrape. I was hoping to get an idea of who/how it happened, but I'm left with just the injury. It will probably heal up on it's own again. You can help her out and feed vitamins in their food to boost her immune system with the healing process. It will also help fight off infection. Things like Selcon or Vitachem will do the trick.

This is comforting Meredith! Thank you.

Typically I feed LRS, which I've trusted as a boost for health and immunity, but Ive run out recently and have had to switch to cheaper mysis and brine for a spell. [emoji53]

Thanks again!

Any time Jeff! Watch for infection and keep us posted on how she does :)

Looks like a tang stab wound but we need better photos I agree. Hope she heals up quickly!
