If the brick and mortar store is any indication I would avoid them at all cost. There are plenty of other reputable vendors to purchase fish online from...

Go to one of your local Petco's that has a SW section and you will see why. The fish are usually sick or dying and the people working there dont care or know how to care for SW fish. This isnt the case with every Petco, but probably 90% of them...

I'd say about half the petco's that I've been too are pretty bad. Now on the other hand the petco up in Minnetonka MN. is awesome!

why fund a huge chain store that hires people that barely know anythign about the animals they are selling (well most of them, not all!) when there are plenty of small venders who have the same fish, coral and what not at the same price or a little +/- some but for a much healthier item??

I have very poor experiences with my local Petcos. The saltwater fish section is usually loaded with very sick fish and their prices are horrid. They also have no guarantees at all on their live fish which really screams their lack of confidence on their product.

I don't know how it is around you guys..but at my Petcos you will not get a single greeting from any staff. I actually complained about this in an email to Petco and told me that "we don't strive for poor customer service and you can be sure you'll be greeted next time you enter our stores". I got a $10 gift card for complaining and decided to give them another try...sure enough..no greeting. Been back several times just to walk around and nobody greets, asks if you need help, or even says BOO to you.

They also give very poor advice..but a lot of pet stores do.

my brother in law ordered from them when they have the special anything over $175 and get free shipping on livestock.

the corals were okay, but the fish came in sick or dead. He called them and complain to them about the poor quality fish. A few days later they sent replacements for the dead fish. It surprised him because he didn't notify him. So far only the watchman and yellow tang is going strong.

fish that died

harlequin sweetlips- doa
2 regular clownfish- 1 doa, second one died a week later
mandarin goby- doa
firefish goby- died a few days later

can't remember the others

The petco rule is order, but don't take it after it's been in their tanks. It's a shame such a large chain harms the hobby so much.
