Just got back into the hobby about 3 months ago. I had a buddy whom had to constantly work out if town for work and he wasn’t able to care for his tank. Needless to say I took it off his hands and it has been a struggle to get it to a respectable rang for corals.

I happen to win this goni from my LFS. It’s wild it’s a 2.5” oval rock when drawn in. My water parameters have been a concern with phosphates. I think I’m turning the corner though and this guy seems super happy.

It’s wild how big can these guys get? It’s about 7” when it’s sun bathing. My first post here, I’ve been lurking and reading a lot. Lot of good information here.

gonis as with most coral, can get as big as some small tanks.

You should look up Goniopora to see their sizes in the wild. Or any coral for that matter.

They are MASSIVE.

chances are though, it won’t get to that size in our aquariums, but the “max size” is really as big as possible for a lot of these multi polyped coral

Also, I would not put these directly on the sand bed. Might see some tissue recession around the edges with sand

Not just as big as some small tanks. They'd get as big as the room that the tank is standing in if the glass walls or other corals weren't stopping them

Yep i have the exact one and its currently about 5" in diameter and growing - started out with just 5-6 polyps.
Pro tips: Make sure your water parameter has minimal level of Manganese. I use this brand and it works extremely well. It doesn't add any excess nutrients into your water. Great stuff.

Thank you for the input. I try to move the sand back from them at nite but I will find something to elevate it off of the sand bed.

Hmm wonder if my small doses of ChaetoGro are helping a little bit.

Certainly should.

I personally do DIY Managanese and iron dosing
What do you recommend for a test kit and suggested levels to try to carry the levels at? Between 1–3 µg/L (0.001–0.003 ppm) or something different in your experience?

Not worth testing for these two as they are imediately consumed.

I don’t think any trace element is worth or even possible to test accurately at home.

Just dose according to some general guidelines.

I do 5x times the amount @Randy Holmes-Farley does for his and I see no downsides. Been doing it for months now.

Really hard to overdose on iron and manganese
