I expected to see more livestock at the tradeshow. Don't get me wrong there were some beautiful pieces I just expected to see more vendors. I was going to go back today and pick up a few more things, but overslept and missed out.
Ditto, kris_kringle. It was my first MACNA, so I was living off of the lore of old and expected tons of livestock, but thought it was more like a big frag swap (same types opf items). I've come home with nicer things from frag swaps. Apparently, if you don't get there Friday, you miss the types of corals I was looking for. There was plenty to see, though. Not disappointed, just was hoping to see more nice SPS, etc.

Really? I saw on RC a thread where people were just bringing home equipment, a few nice acans, and like everyone got a dendro cuz apparently there was a vendor with a ton of them.
If I went, Id expect to see tons of frags and less equipment honestly, but it appears to be the other way around with the reactions I read.

it wasnt as expected but was still fun, I was there first thing friday till the end today. The quality didnt change much till last minute today when stuff was selling cheap. really the main LPS people were bluegrass corals, cherry corals, mr coral, and drs micromussa. cherry had some amazing dendros, casey had some amazing acans, and mrcoral just had a large array of stuff. this was really a great swap for acan, micro, dendro collectors. but it was also nice to just see all the latest techno crap in person and play with it. I had a great time, but wont ever go for three full days again.
And also, I havent been to one before but I was very disapointed in how it was run. There was little to no people helping find where things were, no announcements to keep up with activities, no signs posted anywhere to direct where thigns were. and the whole thing came off like a HUGE money making attempt. Ive never seen drinks so expensive at an event you pay $160 to get into.

MACNA corals
I live in Atlanta and thought there would be more coral vendors myself. I agree it was mostly lps, acans and micro's. I did get few sps from g. Carrol.
Here are some acans I got on Friday.
Blue grass corals
Mr. coral frag it had not opened up yet but you get the idea.
I got another one today but have not taken a pic of it yet.

Very nice acans. It seems that this hobby has taken a very popular swing towards LPS acans/micros/scolys and all LPS in general. There truely some great colors to be found with LPS, and the best reason I can come up with that could explain it is getting the coloration of SPS (some may say better than) and ease of care compared to SPS.
I know if/when I set up my next tank, its going to be LPS dominated for sure.

HEHE! Wheh I heard where the next one was I had to laugh! Everyone will gamble all there spending money and not spend any on corals! LOL!
And yes paintballer: this hobby had taken a turn toward LPS, mainly the acan, micro, scolly corals. The unknown is how long it will stay though. last year it was Zoos and palys. So it is very trendy in my opnion. I got carried away in the acan trend when it first started. I finally came to the conclusion I needed to stop buying stuff for the name and start getting pieces that I liked! If you get to caught up in LE that becomes the new hobby for you!

I volunteered at the show as this was my first MACNA. I also wanted a close up look and have the chance to meet people during set-up etc and get an overview of the show.
I too was expecting more coral vendors and yes there several major equipment vendors where absent.
I’m not sure why there where not more LS vendors. I’m guessing for several reasons. One is the expense. Not only do you have to pay for your booth, but hotel and meals but freight for tanks, lighting and corals. Those add up. I took off today from volunteering to walk around until the end. Most of the LS vendors still had plenty of stock left. A few like Greg Carroll sold out. So now you have LS that you’re either going to have to give away or sell at next to nothing to get rid of it in order not too pay for shipping it home. So I’m guessing it was partly an expense thing.
I talked with several vendors over the weekend one and one and over drinks and got pretty positive feedbacks from all of them. Could have things been better maybe, but it sounded like MACNA pretty much met their expectations.
Now since this was my first I really did now what to except and felt a little disappointed with the number of LS vendors but really enjoyed talking with some of the manufactures about lights, skimmers, food, additives, etc. I know that I gained some knowledge in those areas. Of course everyone has their spin on why theirs is better. But I did get to see equipment that is mainly carried on line such as Bubble King skimmers etc.
At the end of today there where some smoking deals on equipment to be had. I heard Ecotech had a line at 8AM this morning on their Vortech pumps. Several display tanks where being sold at a reasonable prices. I wish had more room for a few that where there.
As far picking up nice frags and corals. Yeah, I went through Friday and picked out a smoking dendro that I saw when Cherry Corals was stocking the tank on Thursday. It has a pink body. Picked a few more things Friday and today. By today most of the nicer stuff was picked over or still a little too much for my pocketbook.
I never made to any of the talks and I was disappointed with that.

I got a few nice pieces today. I got an 'Acroberry' from gcarrol, he had lots of nice frags. I also got Some nice chalice pieces and an acan. I also got a mag-rock and some mag frag plugs...and some new blades for my easy scraper.
I also won an Ora coral at the raffle. I picked up an unnamed monti cap...I was #32 out of 50 so the really cool stuff was already gone.
The LiveAquaria and ORA displays were great. Actually, quite a few zero edge displays.
It was good to meet some of the vendors. Went to lunch with one of the guys from nano-customs/nano-tuners...really nice guy (and he picked up the tab). It was nice to meet Chris from Reefdoctormicromussas in person.
Brian, I'm surprised about your feelings about folks not being helpful. We had plenty of volunteers about although maybe it was easier for me to spot them since I knew them. I tried to be helpful even when I was not "on the clock". Were they not friendly? I do agree regarding the lack of announcement. All I can say is that it's realllly difficult to put on a show like that and I think some details can be missed.
Drinks were at the mercy of the venue (the hotel and the aquarium). They were pricey and I was really happy to have known someone that had tons of beer in her room. I was actually looking for you guys on Friday night but couldn't find you.
