A few hours after lights out when it’s “sleeping” and red light if you have one. Could get a red light head lamp spot lamp at Walmart in sporting goods section

A few options:
1. While sleeping
2. Can reduce water volume and catch with a net, I use egg crate in my 60 gallon system to incrementally reduce the area the fish has access to
3. Fish trap
4. Here is a method I use in my 330 reef tank if I urgently need to catch out a fish since reducing the water volume isn't practical in that situation

I drain water down to 2” above substrate and catch fish. I then pump water back into tank. In my case I have 55G barrels outdoors and use a Mag12 pump and water hose thru wIbrow.

Want a tip from a former wholesaler?
Get a clear container of manageable size and use a net to gently direct the tang into the container.
it works every time. Good luck

I know my tang doesn't sleep. I had to take half of my tank apart and chase the fish over to that side then I had a partition I put in and trapped him in the clean side then he was easy to catch. I tried fish traps but I caught every fish except the one I wanted.
