How do you clean your support rails.

Slightly odd question but going to ask. Curious how others clean their tank support rails without scratching. The obvious answer is a simple wet rag, but in this cases I’m referring more toward the baked on salt not the stuff the easily wipes off. I recently neglected wiping down the rails on weekly basis to the point where the form a hard white residue in the crease of most of the rails that would not wipe away. Was getting bummed out because tank is only two year old and I was starting to think what I was dealing with were actual scratches and corrosion from the salt as a result of water sitting in the channel and getting though the black anodized coating.

To my surprise it actually is not and is just salt. I have able so far to get of off without scratching using the fine point on bamboo skewers to chisel it off. But it’s a very slow process. So curious if anyone has better suggestion for a tool to use.

I've always cleaned salt creep with a rag dipped in warm water and white vinegar. More effective than just water and still safe if a bit gets into the tank.

Never thought to try a vinager mix. I’ll try and see. Plain water does nothing to remove.

Just looked at your tank thread. That thing is a beast. They love that aluminum don't they? Probably drive a car through the house and that tank would be the only thing unscathed. Nice set up. It's aluminum so it better not rust, if it does then I would start a claim.

Long wooden qtip, dip in vinegar or citric acid and it should come off. I use them on my rimmed tanks.
