Question: Doe's anyone manually write down or transfer files if they are running an Neptune APEX? I mean why would you? And is there any reason for doing that? Besides remembering to get bread and milk.. :)

Yes to both. One is rather simple, disciplined. As one goes about their testing practices rather simple to open a log book, add a date, then write down test results as they are completed. Later enter the values into Fusion if you want.

Also long term data retention a few of us use Neptune's API to grab some of the logs then throw them into Grafana. Create graphs and dashboards as one wants with various levels of granularity.

Excel spreadsheet I made for tracking with conversion formulas and graphs.

Little beachy themed notebook (how creative :grimacing-face:) taking notes of main parameters (notably kH and salinity), and if something new happened.

I use Great Big Saltwater Aquarium Log Book. Helps me keep track of everything - housekeeping stuff: water changes, parameters. Adding new stuff and notes about the stupid crap I do to the tanks

Recently I was going through notes over the my past 2 years of reefing. It was really nice to look back and rewind through the journey of my first reef tank. In the past year, I’ve barely taken notes. And it’s a shame because now that journey is only found in my memory and 100s of disorganized pictures! What does everyone else do to log their reef, and how have you stayed (or not stayed) consistent with updates over the years?

(testing results, new livestock additions, dosing notes, this fish isn’t doing well, etc.)

What do you use to track your reef?
I use the Fishkeeper app on my phone, I’ve always liked the idea of keeping a proper tank diary but then I remember I’m inherently lazy  . The app is great and it’s also my favourite price……… free! It keeps track of your fish, inverts (dates introduced etc) and send you reminders of tank maintenance tasks.
