How do you log your reef?

I log my tests on my apex and keep my photos on a folder on my phone to scroll through for growth reference. I used to log all corals and fish for dates on when I got them on aquarimate, but after a crash a year ago, I haven't kept up with aquarimate.

Crash was 100% avoidable, but long story short, pool chemicals don't come into my house anymore... They go straight from the car to the shed even if it's raining. I thought they'd be good for one night, but guess not.

I use an app called reef bay . So far I'm loving it .

I use my Apex app. It logs from Trident and I log my manual tests and any other things I do in the notes section. It’s all in one place and does the job for me.

It's not just a log, but also calculates all sort of useful dosing.

I think it's subscription based these days, but I bought a perpetual license maybe 10 years ago.

I use the notes app on my phone. It's not ideal, but it works. So far, I have the first 100 days with all the details (measurements, notes, etc.). I’ll probably switch to the weekly updates now.

Old school leather backed notebook that stays with the tank. I did recently put together a PowerPoint deck that shows organized pictures from tank build to current. That's fun to look at.

That's the one I use to keep track of test results, dosing info and maintenance done..
I also use photos to track growth. I just have a folder for each tank.

Used it today for the 1st time. Love it.

Recently I was going through notes over the my past 2 years of reefing. It was really nice to look back and rewind through the journey of my first reef tank. In the past year, I’ve barely taken notes. And it’s a shame because now that journey is only found in my memory and 100s of disorganized pictures! What does everyone else do to log their reef, and how have you stayed (or not stayed) consistent with updates over the years?

(testing results, new livestock additions, dosing notes, this fish isn’t doing well, etc.)

What do you use to track your reef?

Oddly enough I just bought a book yesterday. Don't trust computers good thing because mine crashed 2 months ago. It was interesting to write all my helter skelter stuff down, and actually relive it all. I even remembered extra stuff as well, so the book will be used

Stability requires a log or a good memory. I got into the photo documentation habit collecting memories on my phone instead of a written log. A picture book for incidents or just to capture the number of the moment.

Generally don’t need many months prior, just recent images to hold steady.

I am tempted to do so. It is time consuming to refer back to your apex notes because there is no search function. Instead you have to go month by month and visually search. I have had to do this a dozen times over the years so if I had to start over I probably use a different app.
