Recently I was going through notes over the my past 2 years of reefing. It was really nice to look back and rewind through the journey of my first reef tank. In the past year, I’ve barely taken notes. And it’s a shame because now that journey is only found in my memory and 100s of disorganized pictures! What does everyone else do to log their reef, and how have you stayed (or not stayed) consistent with updates over the years?

(testing results, new livestock additions, dosing notes, this fish isn’t doing well, etc.)

What do you use to track your reef?

Since I have a controller I use whatever it has built in. Notes and logging. Works well as long as I remember to use it. I also keep a traditional log book at my desk so when I add the note I just add it to the book using good old paper, pen, and pencil.

Long term data retention I use telegraf, Grafana, and Influx DB to extract, store, and present what controller data from above. Temp, ORP, ph, alk, ca, mg, nitrate, phosphate, ATO water level, and so forth. Current state dashboard to looking back in time.

Google sheets has my ICP history. Photos are on the computer and I try to name and date them so I can correlate it back to notes, log book, or a post.

I have been using the Aquarimate app for the last 6 years or so. It’s been extremely helpful with sending reminders when my maintenance tasks are due and keeping track of my parameters.

Trident for ALk/CALC/MAG but also a white board for Phos/Nitrate + checks and balances on Trident from time to time on Alk/Calc/Mag

I am the more free spirited type and testing and tracking are tedious to me so I don't. If I want to know something about my tank in the past, I look at pics or my build thread.
