How does your tank get that hot? I keep a tank in my garage under metal halides and its 107* outside and 96* in the garage yet my tank is only 78.3* and I don't have a chiller.

But to answer yout question I would say 81* is pushing it

i keep my tank between 80-82. and find that everything is okay. i do think that the corals can handle the temps. the biggest concern would be the 4 degree increase decrease. corals dont usually handle temp swings very well. thats why most try to stay in a two degree range.

My 24 aquapod at my office ranges from 78 in the morning to 89 in the evening. I grow SPS, LPS, and softies with no problems at all in the tank. It is also skimmerless and has had 1 water change (4 gallons) in the last 8 months. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, but it does work for me.

Wow your 24 aquapod gets up to 89 degrees? You are very lucky you havent had any issues. I would be too scared to let me tank get that hot and risk losing my corals.

Higher temperatures make breathing and respiration harder for fish and inhabitants. I would stick a clip on fan over it and bring it down to 78-80 if it were me. In Phoenix with 2x250MH and 2x140w VHO in a totally enclosed canopy with no chiller, just fans, I keep my tanks at 79-81 year round.

The tank tyhat warm you lose alot of oxygen in the tank and just put stress on the fish and coral, best at 79-80
