I've been hunting for a pitho crab to help with my bubble algae for some time. They seem to be quite rare in the UK.
Thankfully 1 shop kept my details and has told me they finally have some in stock!

I've placed an order for 1, but I'm wondering now if I should buy more?

The tanks 56l and already has a mithrax crab.

Hi,
I’m thinking that you should stick to the one pitho since you already have a mithrax. I wouldn’t put more than two in that size tank.

Have you had any luck getting the bubble algae out manually?

I;ve spent $200 on pitho's, but there seems to be tastier stuff on my rocks than the bubble algae because they all ignore the bubble algae. The best solution is manual removal then siphon them out.

I think with any crab its hit or miss as to what they will eat. The emeralds I got ate my acans. I have never had a crab until I got the Pithos eat bubble algae. I got 4 Pitho crabs for my 80g and all the bubble algae on the rocks was gone in less than a month. I still have bubble algae places they cannot reach like up high around the returns, overflow or power heads and magnetic frag racks. I pull it off and either leave it on the sand bed near lights out or if they are out I will give it to them directly. One of the little guys turned into a big crab with big claws, I think its female and she will very gently take it from my hand. The other three remain smaller with small claws and are not real sure about me doing this.

edit I would say 1 maybe 2 if there is a lot of algae. They happily eat nori and pellets or frozen too.
