OK... Maybe some of you have read my other post but i finally got my Media Reactor and GFO from BRS. I got the granular stuff. This is the first time i have ever run a reactor. Last week i tested my PO4 and it was around .25. I don't have any nuisance algae growing or anything as it is a mature tank but some of my SPS brown out. My question is how much GFO should i start off with in the reactor? Ive heard people say to put less than the recommended dose in order to prevent shocking the corals by dropping the PO4 too fast. Also how by how much and how often should i change and increase the dosage? Tanks:bigsmile:

The instructions on the BRS package of the GFO is what I used. I have a 120 gallon with a 30 gallon sump but I only used 120 in my figures. After you take account of rock and sand you never have your tanks total of water amount. Anyway for my tank it was 2 cups of GFO to start. And increase to 4 cups after a week. I have not increased amount I am at 2 cups and phosphates remain at 0.00 using a Hanna reader. My phosphates were at 0.07 when I started using GFO. Your levels are higher so I would check every day or other day since the GFO may become exhausted in less than a week. Once you get your level in check the GFO could last for months. You change the GFO when your levels are increasing.
