How to read Salifert tests?

Hi

New to reefing after a 20 year break.

I’m cycling my tank at the moment.

How do I read the Salifert tests when you need to look over the vial to compare to the colour card. Am I comparing the edges or the liquid covering the bottom… because there is some variation in the colour. I never trust myself.

This is why I use the Red Sea test kits. They are easier to read in my opinion. However look straight down and compare closest color to the card. A best guess is okay, don’t over think it.
 
I just bought the Hanna master kit. It was an investment but hopefully it’s easier for me to use.

You start by reading the instructions :-)

I always go to youtube for demonstrations on how to use new equipment, there is a "how to use" video for almost every aquarium gadget. There are many videos for testers as well.
