If you all were sharp enough to buy a stand & tank with a hood, this wouldn't be a conundrum for you***. Additionally, you wouldn't have any worries about carpet-surfing fish and/or bright lights blinding the vision of the people you'd like to have a really good look at your fantastic reef creation!

*** I can't tell you how many times over the years I've updated the lighting in my tank, and have only had to drill a few more screw holes in the interior ceiling of my hood to handle the new equipment!!! (T-8s - to - T8's and small 150W halides - to - T8s and larger 250W halides , T-5s - to - T5s with electronic Ice Cap ballasts - to - LED specialty lighting strips - yada, -yada, and now - to - the likes of LED modules. (But I must admit that I actually once had to replace a "low-hat" hood with a "high-hat" hood. The "low-hat" didn't have enough room for all the lighting equipment that actually I needed to fit in there.)

Caveat Emptor!

Aluminum angle iron and some jack chain into eyebolts. I think my mount cost $20 total, including paint and stainless hardware. And it's height adjustable : )

I DIY ones from Lowe’s because at the time AI had no way of mounting their Blades. Also this was like $20 while AI seemed to think spending a couple hundred more on mounting their already expensive lights was a fair deal. Thanks to @tbrown for the idea.

I don't use it anymore but the old school lights were a shelf bracket, "S" hook, and some chain attached to the wire hangers. I used it for the MH back in the day, Viparspectras, and older Black Box LEDs.

Our new tank is between two posts in our home. I built a light bar from mahogany dimensional lumber. Since this photo was taken the wiring and fluid lines have been managed and hidden. I put AI Prime 16 Reefs in the light bar. I can slide the lights depending on corals needs.
