So I’be gone from a downgrade to a huge upgrade in record time

Went from a 30g to a 22g cube, then was given a 4ft tank from a good friend of mine.

22g cube (with sump) will now be the observation / holding tank after TTM QT.
Tank dimensions are a bit odd, it’s around 110g display (48”x21.5”x23”). It’s basically a taller, wider 90g.

Current fish:

- Citron Goby
- 3 small Chromis
- Spotted Dragonet

I have a super tiny Scopaz Tang half way through quarantine as well, I really like Scopaz’s (especially their price tag ) & seemed like a good fish to try the Hybrid TTM QT process (other fish were observation QT’d only).

As for coral, I am going soft coral mostly. I love the movement & quick growth, but am more in to fish than coral so don’t want anything too demanding.

I work from home & the tank is in my office, so I can (& do) feed multiple times a day. Angel fish are my favourite fish, I like Wrasses as well. I am ok with coral nipping, if the fish is worth it (again, fish are what I’m in to - I don’t want a FOWLR if possible because I like the natural look of SOME coral, will be mostly leathers, Xenia, mushrooms, a gorgonian or two).

If I’m looking at angelfish being my “showpiece” fish, which genus could I look to adequately keep in my tank without the need to upgrade for at least 4 years? I’d also like to add an oddball tang & probably a Lineatus wrasse or Melenarus / colourful wrasse.

Could I keep a dwarf angel with a genicanthus? Or would I be best looking at a pair of them? What about Apoloemichthys angels?

You could do a trio of dwarf or one of the genicanthus. I wouldn’t do both as angels can be aggressive.
What if I ditched the coral idea? The Xenia & leathers I have, if they get eaten they get eaten. For me it’s about the fish more than coral, so leaning more heavily toward FOWLR setup…

I had a pair of dwarf angels with a juvenile Emperor angel, and all three got along great (160-gallon display). If you’re going to try for a trio of dwarf angels, I might suggest a coral beauty, flame and flameback. I have a midnight and coral beauty, and while they get along now - it did take them a week or two to “resolve their differences”.

I have a very small juvenile scopas tang in the tank now & an eibli in QT.

im adding a clownfish pair next month (sourcing them atm), then I’ll see how nitrate & phosphate go, assess the filtration setup & if it can take another fish look to add another angel. Maybe a female swallowtail or another dwarf (would love a golden angel).
