I'm battling algae right now - primarily bryopsis. I'm 2 days into fluconazole and just starting to see a few patches turn lighter green. (Yeah, cannister are nutrient traps - I'm addressing it). I have 3 patches of various firework clover polyps, and they are COVERED. Cleaning the cannister in prep for a few weeks of no water change I think really made the algae growth go nuts. I don't want to lose my clovers and today they are fully closed. Can I do a dip with these guys in peroxide? I'm about to unglued 2 more frags of zoas that are covered badly as well and I know they can handle it, but I couldn't find anything about clover polyps being safe, and at what time/strength.

I also plan on moving from peroxide to saltwater in a cup before returning to my tank, due to having 2 cleaner shrimp and not wanting to risk losing them.

In the past I’ve used elevated magnesium and having enough fish and inverts to disturb substrate and rock work.
Even if they don’t eat it they will dislodge it.
Not sure if it was one or the other or both together that worked for me, but it always worked for getting rid of bryopsis.

yes there is a formula of how many ML of 3% hydrogen peroxide per 1 liter of water. 5 min dip. And amount of hydrogen peroxide varies by the type of coral. Formula is here. I’ve used it countless times over the years

Observe the algae after 24 - 48 hours and repeat if needed. You can dip longer for more persistent algae or increase ml of peroxide to the higher end of the range

For the clove polyps I wouldn’t use peroxide.
I would put the in a small container in tank water and use tweezers to pull as much as I can off.
Look into raising magnesium and add some inverts even if only temporarily. Large Turbos, larger hermits, emerald crabs, a blenny, tang and a few rainfordi goby’s.

I have fish and inverts - none of the inverts will touch that stuff. I was trying to do the pull with suction method, and it really wasn't doing much. Cleaned the cannister, a few days later saw a lot of algae, a few days after that there was a lot more. Did some digging and realized I have bryopsis, looked and found the fluconazole treatment. I don't have any coral that are affected, and I'm only doing a 1x treatment (rather then the 2, 3, and 4x I saw that people were doing), so I expect it to take a week or two to really see a difference. I'm more worried about the 3 clover polyp frags that are closed. Hence asking if I can do something more direct to them.
My partner tried to SCRUB one... yeah, he didn't ask or I would have told him bad idea. It died.

You’ll never get the tiny roots by plucking. You can’t even see them.

Thanks! I'll look into this. My partner did the dip on his zoa, so I know it works. Just didn't want to melt my clovers!

It's clover, not clove, polyps. I did try to pull stuff off of the 4th frag... they went from stressed to UNHAPPY - then my partner scrubbed on them and they died. So now I'm gun shy about doing anything to these guys. Lol. The firework variety is surprisingly hard to find in my area.
I'll look into magnesium for longer term control - someone else mentioned it, so thanks guys.
I have 2 turbos - they won't touch the stuff even if I move them. Same with every other snail. Same with the hermits - from tiny to a huge blue legs and medium black/red-tipped. We did up the inverts and crabs initially, but either i still don't have enough or the algae is now too big for them to want to eat. I don't want to risk the emerald crab, and my tank (36g) is too small for the fish.

I hear you. Unfortunately most everything comes with risks. I’ve never had a bad emerald but I’ve heard a lot of people have.
Seems like the flucon treatment is the way to go on full eradication. Let us know how it goes.

So I have personally roasted FCP doing hydrogen peroxide dip. I, knowing what I know now, would not. You aren't going to beat bryopsis fast.

Instead, I would go through the entire cycle of fluconazole. Then, use a cheap pen and run the tip to a point to spot clean and remove the dead/loose algae. Just be patient; fluconazole will take care of it. You just need to give it a few weeks.
