Hey everyone. If I’m connecting a Hydros Launch (main hub) to a WE light, other than a command bus cable, how many terminators do I need? Do I need anything else?

Is it for a safety thing? Or why two, one on each thing?

It’s not a safety thing, it’s more of a communications thing. Since I run multiple controllers on my collective, I choose to have a terminator on each end. Since the collective can change masters I’m always covered. If you have only one master and one child, you could get by with a single terminator. But they’re cheap and having one on each end won’t hurt.

My collective is more like the second pic, so I use two. If you’re more like the first, then one would be ok.

Once you get a larger collective then you will need 2. With the price why not just get both now so you will have it when you need it. The terminators are a CAN bus thing and are actually resistors and you will need at least one or the communications between the controllers over the bus will not happen.

Oh nice! That’s good to know. I’ll get two of them in case I want to expand my modules.

Do I need anything special for the hydros wifi strip? Want to make sure I have everything when I get it alls set up

Make sure that your 5ghz channels and the 2.4ghz channel with the Hydros controllers do not have the same name. The wifi strips will connect with either channel but they need to be on the same channel as the controllers for them to communicate with each other. Also some routers do not like the communications between the controllers and wifi devices and think that it is an intrusion and stops it.

By channel do you mean wifi names? Or is there a tutorial published online I can use to set it up?

What I did was buy an extender. I made a separate 2.4ghz network that only my Hydros stuff is on. I’ve had 0 problems doing that. I used the recommended TP-Link RE315 AC1200 Wi-Fi Range Extender. Very easy. Setup as an access point plugged into one of my mesh routers.

I was taking about the channel names setup in your router. Mine I have _5G added to the end of the 5ghz name so it will be different. Some routers will not let you change it though.

That’s a good idea, if I only turned on the 2.4 Ghz (it only has one name) and connect both the Hydro command center and Wi-Fi strip to it, would that work? Since my 5G is disconnected and they won’t be connected to it

Yes if the 5ghz is turned off in the router then they cannot connect to it, but if you can change the name of the 5ghz channel from what the 2.4ghz channel is that will work also. Below is my wifi channel settings on my router.
