Hydros Maven is Delayed

I collect, format as MQTT and dump it right in through MQTT broker (mosquito). HA can poll directly tcp/websokects, etc. But I opted to write the middleware (python) for format control. When I get time, I can share full server topology, I built a deployment document (I tend to lose track of things and forget how I did them otherwise).

I'll have to read up on HA and see what I could do with it. We have one Alexa device but do not make much use of it and I do not like it to be honest. No disrespect.

I have never looked at Hydros Dash -- and understand they have no API -- so not sure how relevant this is to Hydros users.

The thread has been off topic for a while and this was a great side conversation. Sorry to get off track everyone.

So in general it seems this whole cloud dependence/cloud coupling of the Hydros is somewhat “artificial” since it seems most of the data is stored on the local devices (whether it be logs or configs). And if CV decided to, they could serve it up locally on the LAN or via Bluetooth from the devices themselves. They could also support programming locally as well given this.

All they seem to be doing, as originally thought, was to use the cloud to save and validate configs and then push them to each device in the collective from thier cloud service when required. The rest looks to all be handled locally. If so, then their cloud infra is more than likely just basic storage, and whatever VMs they need to support offering up the service (eg. the service endpoint, nginx, etc) vs some more extensive IoT infrastructure.

The mini display was not operating, but to the best of my knowledge it was similar to the unit on the larger display in that it had the latest cuvette design (2 tubes). The unit on the main display unit was operational, in the fact that it was running tests (pulling reagent, pulling rodi/test water, etc). To what level of operation I cant tell you.

I agree with @BeanAnimal on a lot of things but that doesn't mean he is always right. Often times I see the back and forth, word stretching, deflecting, flexing and so on and I move on to other threads.

That said, I don't have anybody in my ignore list. I'm willing to listen to all sides of the story; however twisted.

Logic?

Providing a date and missing is disastrous.

If they had a confident date even if it was months away, they would be taking pre-orders.

There is no benefit of them going radio silent or announcing "HEY! surprise, it is ready".

So I would say not "soon" -- but who knows, I don't think much of how they have communicated makes any sense. and it could drop tomorrow.

These types of testers are a pretty large investment (on the order of $1000 or more).

And when it comes to that kind of spend, people might be willing to defer their purchase to have a fully integrated Hydros solution vs spending similar money for a non-integrated product. And let’s be frank, it’s not like the other solutions out there aren’t without their own issues.

So even if people are irritated about the delay, that may not be enough to sway them to say abandon their Hydros solution for another controller ecosystem or buy a different product that doesn’t integrate well with their existing Hydros ecosystem.

Of course CV might lose new users that are committed to automatic testing to their competitors while this delay lasts. But that’s a smaller subset of the population buying controllers and as such doesn’t impact their bottom line as much.

The X10 works well for frequent Alk checks, because I can make the reagent for nearly free.

But my Nitrate and Phos still drift a bit, and 2-3 times a week Phosphate measurements would be enough to track my GFO exhaustion. Especially when I get busy and distracted with work.

Is that worth $1500 CDN? I'm not sure yet.

If it was $800 for just Nitrate and Phos, I'd pull the trigger instantly.

Calcium and Magnesium I never test even though I have the Hanna checkers. Any ICP has always had them perfect for years. And Alk is fast with Hanna, and automated with my X10.

I mix 1.9ml of muriatic acid into 1L of RO and it seemed to work. https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/diy-alkatronic-reagent.639360/post-6714329

Measured the volume with an accurate scale instead of a pipette.

I may try another method though. The 20 Baum muriatic acid is dangerous stuff. You can immediately tell it evaporates into the air.
