Tank set up in August 2021. Lights not turned on until January 2022. Phosphates at 0. Nitrates at 5.

So, since the tank is still fairly young, and lights have only been on for less than 4 months, am I just looking at a normal growing pains issue that will go away on its own? Or should I take steps to remove it (chemiclean)?

Phosphate zero is a bad number.
Some believe pest algae and bacterium thrives in those unstable environments.
Dose the phosphate up to say .05-.1ppm and keep chemistry and nutrients stable.
While it’s there blow it off and suck it out.

Good guy bacteria populates faster in very stable waters.

I doubt it’s completely zero. I’m using a color test, which relies on me being able to differentiate between several shades of light blue. With the way I feed, it’s probably closer to .01 than 0.

I struggled A lot with my dryrock. Lots of cyno and dino's. I think it's a battleground of bacteria -ish microbes fighting for control . If i was to start again I would have bought at least some liverock. Cyno with dryrock is not uncommon. Avoid double zeros, dino's suck.

I feel like understanding the aquaria biome is still in it's infancy. Saw this amazing video today and it really made me think.

If it's cyano, it's suck a small amount that you can afford to made changes to the environment rather than reaching for chemicals... Siphon out what you can and increase flow to that area, then see if it comes back.
Wow, just noticed all my typos! Sorry about that!!
