He ain't kidding. IBEW JWs are making 37.90 plus 125 a day per diem to work up there. Where ever you live look up your local ibew union hall. You get paid to get trained with healthcare and retirement part of the package. Best thing I ever did.

I saw writing as one of your skills. Maybe go see if the newspaper/other journals need anyone? A little lower down, but see if you can deliver papers?
There's good money in child care. You could do it in your home even :) With school starting people are looking for after school care givers.

I live in a town smaller than yours we got piggley wiggly, family dollar, dollar general , gas stations family owned, got to travel for work. Maybe you should start lookin far away its never fun to comuit for work but if the money's right and it pays the bills its all worth it. Good luck! Only kids I will ever deal with are ones I'm related to..I don't think people's parents would appreciate my training skills. I'm well rounded in dog training, with the exception of my lab/beagle mix who has mental disorder. And I actually do house calls for training owners how to correctly calm their dogs for walking. Mostly handicapped people who accidentally get pitbulls and can't walk them. I fix the owners to control the dogs, but nothing much more than that...not much call for trick training haha.
Newspaper: too small. They are going under due to the Internet anyways. They pay paper boys .08 per paper and gas. After taxes my friend made $90 per week and that's with gas included.
Commuting will be an option as soon as the woman gets a car. We are a block away from her school so she walks there but I am the wheels for everything else, so I have to get creative. I have a few more rugs to pick up for the walls and I should be good to go on the studio. I have a few people with bands who need demos and they have friends etc...coral sales have started pickup up today too, so I had a nice fat steak. Only sold like 12 chalice frags that keep growing back from the mother colony...only $45 a pop. :D
So now I'm also going for more stock for the frag tank...I think I'll be back on track soon. Its just these dang slow periods that need some form of supplement. Don't worry I'm not going to die or starve, or even have to sell my tanks, I get all the essentials covered no matter what.
If only windmill generators were affordable. That would give me more $$$ to pocket.

Has to be a hardware store near you? HD and Loews always are hiring. If full time get benefits.. I hated working for HD but hey you gotta do what you gotta do. I don't know how you could survive just on your tanks in general whatever that really means. Unless you have some huge operation going on in your basement.
So honestly it seems you gotta pull things together a bit and be realistic.
If you are confident in your abilities, take the loan and open up some type of a shop that your area could use, florists, bakeries, coffee, pizzeria, breakfast cafe.

Oh its definitely a small operation, just big enough for the demands within reach....which aren't high. I don't ever sell fish, just frags, tanks, custom sumps, and various water services. I have the 90 and a frag tank and sadly that is more than most places around here. Another thing is I have no cheap corals, like Xenia or colony polyps...just Lps like chalice and acans. Zoas are pretty good sellers too.
Its definitely enough to keep me and my family of dogs, cats, and my woman going, but not uphill. Though in comparison to a year ago this is much better. My home is paid off, so that's not an issue.
People are always stating business around here. I'm not sure if they just suck or there is just not enough general income...which is what I think.
Once my lady is graduated, out west we will go.

Well now things are looking much brighter. I just got a few big tank jobs and a sump. I think next year I'm just going to go on vacation during this dry spell. I took an early summer vacation and was still busy lining up clients. These jobs will have me a solid chunk of change.

So here's what I would probably do if I opened a place. I'd have the saltwater as the main attraction. There is a large dog population, so that would be my main income, and I have dog sufficient grooming skills to get by until I hire someone. The local farm store sells food cheaper than Walmart...so that wouldn't be good but I could offer pond services as well. I've had winter jobs..deicing waterfalls mainly. Freshwater fish and plants are popular too. Those are on the list. Pool accessories would even be an idea. Nothing else really seems like it would stick. Restaurants, bars, and gas stations all pop up and disappear within months. Everyone has animals though..especially cat ladies
As long as you dont know what the word actinic means...that's already over qualified around here.

Check out church musician openings in nearby towns. Sometimes, even if you have to travel a bit the pay isn't bad if you're good. Usually you don't have to be a member and depending on the church it could be anywhere from 2 - 20 hrs. per week. I get paid about $9000/year to lead 2 - 1 hr. rehearsals weekly and direct the choir every other Sunday. I get summers off (sort of). Oh - I do not have a degree in music. Easter and Christmas does required that I spend a little more time at my job.
Ok, now you know too much to work in this town. Best idea would be to forget about it haha
I have thought about that but we have mostly conservative churches that do the old style choir/organ. The one we do have with the modern vibe is pastored by my woman's mom and they don't pay people. :/ however she owns an interior decorating business that we help her with, but its rare when she needs my help.
Basically moving or building something are what I'm looking at. If I do lease a building it will have to have an upstairs for the studio. Kill 2 birds with one stone :) fish in the day music recordings at night? I'm stilll weighing out potential options. It'll be at least a month of planning

What about dog walking/pet sitting?
That was what got me into saltwater actually. I ran a dog service that didn't go so well. I still do side jobs for handicapped people who need my help but there is less money in dog care than corals. People would rather have a maniacal dog with social problems than get it help and dog sitting around here isn't in demand. Grooming is the only prestigious dog service and I am over that ordeal. I was professionally trained, and am good friends with a highly recommended vet...but people still want to completely flip out when their perfect mutts have a flea, they won't stop feeding them people food (which causes nervous bowels...on me), and there is about a 50% chance the customer will claim to have not agreed to something, thus ripping me off. This happens to every groomer I know too.
Setting a groom shop in a pet store makes security much easier, and I can videotape people as they place their orders so they can't rip people off. The place I used to work had a setup like that. I got ripped off only by really smart people who must have had thief training haha.
