Agreed

any outside tank action u want to try is perfect

up until very recently, 100% of actions in reefing were solely water / param changes you were allowed to make then we wait to see what happens in a month. Corals not under distress hate this

Direct reef dentistry outside the tank is new, active, and works really well.

GFO isn’t used because people want to grow more corals with it, it’s for algae concerns. I would use gfo in zero new reefs, those should be all work on the part of the aquarist. Taking full accountability for invasions is best, you can earn the clean condition without delay if you practice external rock and frag control.

Cyano is bacteria which require light and phosphate and it like spots where no much water movement. manual removal everyday will help to limit the presence of cyano. Cyano caused due to imbalance of nutrient import and export going on. To solve this, you need to increase the power of gyres, manual remove, fix GFO to remove phosphate till 0.05. start adding carbon dosing such as NOPOX. If this not work, you need to start the antibiotic product called chemiclean.

"As you know that all the main causes of algae are phosphate, nitrate and other trace elements not in the right range. If you have algae issues means your sump set up require modification or re-installation.

I will tell you successful sump installation from successful people:

1- Water coming from flow box to first room where you have RowaPhos, bio pellets and Rowacarbon reactors.
2- Water going from room 1 to room 2 : Strong Protein skimmer ( bubble king skimmer, OCTO. etc)
3- Water going from room 2 to 3: return pump + Strong UV Light (Pentair, Deltec) + chiller
4- Make sure all 33 trace elements are in the right range by doing triton test and dose as necessary.
5- Maintain high alkalinity to to prevent low PH. PH 8.4 can prevent life rock from leaching stored phosphate.

Note: you need to fix manifold pipe for UV, chiller, return pump and reactors. 99.9% water should pass UV before going back to aquarium and installation guide shown in the manual. Also fix flow gauge to know how much gallon per minute to match the UV requirements.

Also remember to cure your rock for 2 months or once phosphate stop rising before adding to new tank. This will prevent any algae issues in future.

What i want to tell you is not only focusing on medication to cure algae. First, fix your sump correctly."

What do you mean I have my main pipe on the left side of the sump , then hits the protein skimmer , then hits the media reactor then the mechanical filter lastly the return pump.
I’m confused on what you are talking about

There are many great advice up there

APi kit for phosphate is like looking for something for someone not knowing what you are looking for in a first place, lol

its garbage

you need to invest in hana checker ULR phosphate tester.

All other parameters looks ok, Ph is little low so open a window get the fresh air roll in that will help with the Ph levels,

I have to agree with most here that your Phosphate to Nitrate levels are not in balance, try 8:1 No3-Po4, this will take time but once you find that ratio that works for you tank will be stable.

Redfield ratio is 16:1, however 10:1, 8:1, all these ranges what you want to go for.

I’m confused on what you are talking about

I suggest sump as follow: Mechanical filtration- good skimmer - phosphate/carbon reactors - return pump- UV. Make sure water pass UV before going back to tank.

A few snails and hermit crabs will help as well , aka clean up crew :)
