However, in many cases the clowns will move the crab out.

(lol)
That's what my clown tries to do... ;Blackeye

And... Your right, I used to buy this species.

Tried to get some picture of SPS today. Only a couple were worthy (barely). Very hard to shoot tiny frags with my phone. About half of the ones I received are encrusting or growing well. The rest mostly look healthy, but are unchanged to my eye. The only one that looks weaker is the Shimmer and Shine.

SPS Island Overview

This was a shot focused on the Bug Out Stylophora on the right. It is both encrusting and growing well. It is definitely the piece that has done the best since being added. To its right is the Bonsai which is encrusting and growing slowly with happy polyps. In the back, the Candy Flame which has encrusted a tiny bit.
67C374C7-9BA1-4E59-A3F6-D0417FC77763.jpeg

The Miyagi Tortuosa (left) is looking very healthy with excellent polyp extension (PE). That PE was apparent even in the bag it came in. It took a double glueing to get it to stay in place and you can see there is good growth along the glue with more PE. To its right is the Space Invader Millepora which has grown out very well toward the light. It was mounted at a slight angle and that whole side facing the light is looking spectacular.

The Green Goblin Anacropora is showing the most up growth. The bottom is not really encrusting much at all. This all despite being the only SPS frag of the bunch not directly under the 16” LED fixture. To its right is the Twisted Sister which has not done much, but looks fine.

The two not yet shown or mentioned, the Fire Weed and the Battlejuice are both looking well, but not fully colored yet. They are not showing much growth either but look healthy. Overall I am pretty happy after one month. No losses and only one of ten looks worse than it originally did.

I found a little surprise critter today. Can you guess what it is? Can you make it out from the picture? I bet @Brew12 knows
CFEDAE03-E6D9-4491-BDC1-CA1510646585.jpeg

I noticed a web-like, stringy substance along the side of the anemone rock. I traced it and found this little tube under the rock. Have you guessed yet? Yep. A Vermetid Snail. It is the only one I have seen so here is the question, super glue over the tip or just crush it with tweezers? Any better ideas? As I said, I only see the one, so not too worried.

As I mentioned on my thread, I had a Vermetid recently which kill my Red Dragon, and started irritating another Frag. I also had one a while ago and it killed my plating MONTI.

GET RID OF IT ASAP, since they can multiply.

COMPLETE Physical Extraction is what I did both times, since I wasn't confident putty/glue was good enough , but folks have posted it works. (If you seal him in COMPLETELY, and seal holds, he will die inside the GLUE/EPOXY CAP)
My biggest worry about doing extraction in the tank, is if I was prying it off, it might fall and get lost in the tank (ie. Not removed)

What I did (if you can reach the spot well) is I carved it out, including some of the rock under the Vermitid mound, to ensure 100% I got all of it. I was fortunate enough to be able to remove the rock to work on table.

Are you sure it's a Vermitid snail. I don't know all the species, but mine was a mound like a Pyramid. I posted a good photo of it on my thread recently.
Your photo isn't 100% clear, but that looks like a TUBE. So could be a worm of some sort.
I'm not a Vermitid expert.

Have a peek at this PEST Database.

Great photos....

NICE NEW ADDITION on the Anacropora. Something different.
I recently got an Anacropora. Interesting SPS. Great glow in Blue Lights.
Do some googling on Anacropora, since you will learn that IT WILL NEVER ENCRUST. It's like tumbleweeds.
That's what my research taught me. So Good Strong Glue is needed as when it get's bigger, heavier, the GLUE IS ALL YOU GOT to keep it there.

Very interesting, my anacropora is only a 3 inch piece, I glued it in a hole, hopefully it will stay put. ;)

I was starting to realize that was the case. Good idea glueing it into a hole. It will be easy enough to move a little and do that. I had not considered what would happen when it grew and became heavier.

Okay I was just reading a bit on Anacropora. Funny, I got this Green Goblin one as a freebie coral with an SPS order. I just assumed it was like an Acropora (as I am sure many others would). Seems it grows all over, thin and fragile and does not encrust much as was mentioned above. Sounds almost like a birdsnest. I may find a better place then for its growth pattern. Thanks guys!

On the Vermetid, despite the poor picture, I am certain it is a Vermetid in person. The rock it is on is supporting the anemone rock and the Toadstool rock, so difficult to remove. Last time I disrupted that structure for a “quick” adjustment, it took me almost an hour to rebuild it in a stable position and that was before the anemone and corals were in place. Looking at it now, I think I can just get it off while in the tank. Almost all of it is exposed, but it is in a tight spot. I will try in the morning and let you all know.

5am vermitid war plan all systems go?

I will be home in 15 minutes. But I may make breakfast for my youngest daughter first. Hmmm, Chocolate Chip Pancakes á la Vermetid anyone?

Just Dumb
Today was spot feeding day. All the corals and the anemone were looking odd though. Hmmm.... Realized I made a huge mistake last night. After a 10% water change I turned everything back on except... the temperature controller and the heaters. Crap. Temperature dropped to 72*F.

It was off for about 14 hours. Dumb mistake. Just dumb. We will see how everything responds.

Vermetid Snail
On a more positive note, I eradicated the Vermetid Snail. Here he was before, perhaps a better picture than the earlier post
D90E788A-1D14-4341-AC3A-2DE769A2D0DE.jpeg

I removed the tube with tweezers and then scraped the rest of him off he rock. Not a fun job. I think I got most of him and nothing much will be left to foul the tank. Here is the tube piece
86782AB7-176F-4E1A-A8B9-01E0B173A6C6.jpeg

044B0AA2-743B-4EF9-B373-377FC60DD567.jpeg

The tube was much harder than I expected from the looks of it. Not sure if this was the best method. I had read of several ways and this seemed good for not wanting to remove the rock. As it was, since my rocks are unsecured except by gravity, they were jostled a bit. I almost lost them all once, but managed to keep the right structure together.

Here is an FTS of everyone recovering from the temperature drop and my disrupting the tank
E1B72878-7E47-45B4-A38D-5E60FEEE35A6.jpeg

Pretty quickly the Toadstool opened back up and the anemone inflated. The SPS polyps are beginning to extend. None of the LPS corals seemed to care at all. The snails all seem slower than usual. The new ocellaris (who has been named Sharkbait by the kids) was the only fish to appear sluggish. He has had a long week.

I will continue to monitor, but so far, nothing terrible.

My phone rang causing me to do the same thing a couple of weeks ago. Couldn't kick myself in the rear end hard enough when i found it later that night. Stuck my fingers in with some pellet food and said to myself huh, that seems cold.... Anyway, glad things seem mostly no worse for wear!
