Hey guys and gals - I’ve had my ice cap 1k gyre about 2 weeks and I don’t know if I’ll keep it. I have a Red Sea Reefer 170 and it moves a lot of water, even at 10% it still looks like torture to all inhabitants. I haven’t pulled one of the props to run one side yet, but heck if gotta do that I I might as well kept my hydor pumps! Just throwing this out there, small tank owners beware.

I have one on my 60 cube and love it
change the angle of the fins to point upward and perhaps change the mode on it to a ramp up and down

I was thinking of trying one. I'm finding, due to the shape and dimensions of the 170, it's hard to eliminate dead spots.

I just put one in my 32 biocube. Had to set it to 10 so things weren’t extremely crazy. But honestly wish it had a 5 setting
I know - I like to see it go from 0 - 100. there is a new model coming out that allows you to control it with an app and they say it’s backwards compatible with the 1k. Eager to see it.

I have a 1k gyre on my biocube 29 doing random ramps up and down from 10-40%. My fish and corals love it. It’s done a great job eliminating dead spots in the corners. I have one side angled up to the surface and the other straight.

I got rid of two Mp10’s for (1) 1K gyre and LOVE it. It was just okay in stock configuration, and when I put it on alternating gyre mode with 2 “B” blades... my SPS polyps went on overdrive! I absolutely love the flow in this configuration on a Max Nano. I have better full coverage flow with 1 gyre vs two Mp10’s. Before anyone gives up on their gyre, try alternating gyre with blade change.

The CP25 from Jebao is shorter, but I have to say, gives the 1K a run for it's money.

Jebao makes some decent equipment. I have been running 2 PP-8 powerheads and a DC 1200 for close to 2 years. Happy with them so far. Also have a DP-4 doser and it does its job as expected. I have been looking at the Crossflow pumps but for the price Icecaps are not much more.

Where is yours mounted. I have the same tank and the 1k gyre was overkill. Maybe post a fts for us to see your layout. Thanks

I have it on Alternating gyre with both B blades on +- 4seconds with maximum 40%. No sand is moved and all coral have a natural movement with their polyps. My rock work is a huge reason why. Sorry for the poor pic, I’m out the door and dont have time to correct the iPad.

I have two in my 30 x 22 x 10 frag tank. Lets just say the water RIPS at 40% random mode, to the point it creates tons of little vortex currents in the tank where the flows collide. Those bubbles flying around are from the flow, not skimmer / return, etc.

Great for sticks, not sure how that would be in a tank with sand, etc.

The inhabitants seemed to happier whrn my gyre was put vertically instead of horizontal. You can give that a try.
thanks for the tip, changed to that yesterday and made a huge difference. I ordered a mp10 also. I‘ll post an update once I get the mp10 in the tank!

Question on this. What are the "B" blades? My ice cap 1k only came with the installed blades, extra bushings, covers, and the end cap for one side. Plus the controller and a horrible instruction manual.
