Ich, QT and a Mandarin

Like a kid told a thousand times not to put his finger in the socket, I put some tangs in my display without making them spend some time in QT.... Now all of my tangs have Ich. I've started my QT and have been catching all of my fish to run the tank fallow.

My question is; I have a Mandarin in my display that does not eat pellets. This mandarin is fat and healthy but it only eats pods. What am i supposed to do for QT with copper for this fish?

If he shows no signs of ich and is not eating frozen I wouldn't risk moving him from the DT. IMO

If one fish has ich its safe to assume all fish have it. Even though mandarins are less likely to get ich its still very possible and I would assume in this case it does. 72 days fallow for the DT. I would use tank transfer method with the mandarin and supplement with pods a few times a week in a separate QT for the next 72 days. No sense in going through a proper QT with the other fish and not the mandarin.

I believe mandarins skin won't get ick toments but not totally sure you need @Humblefish or @melypr1985

They definitely can get it, they're less susceptible but are not fully immune to ich

I wouldn't recommend copper for a mandarin. They can and do carry ich, but with their thick slime coats they are fairly resistant to external parasites. TTM would be best for the mandarin and you can send him to a friend to hold on to until your tank is clear. Maybe if that friend has ich as well you might send the mandy there first, then get him back about 15 days before the fallow period is over, do TTM then put him and the rest back in the display.

I guess I do have a frag tank that would sustain the mandarin and I know it has pods. I have a few fish in there but it wouldn't be a big deal to fallow that after.

That could be done easily enough - buying them that is. Dont use ones from your display since we knows it's infected. If you have fish in the frag tank it could have ich in it as well and would be the same situation as doing TTM then putting the mandy back in the DT. It would just get reinfected again. Of course, it's your choice... I'm just giving all the info I can so you can pick what's best for you. Also, if your mandy is fat and healthy, I dont see any reason why it wouldn't make it through TTM without food, as long as he has access to it again after. You can feed him while he's in qt of course, but I mention it because he may not eat or you may not feel he has enough food.
