I've tried treating Ich with everything from water changes to copper to other treatments. I know it will cost more. But would it be easier to just get new rock and drain the tank and let it cycle?

Are you treating a tank, or treating fish?

If you are treating fish, assuming you can catch them, you could stand up a hospital tank and treat them there. Then...

Since one of your tanks is contaminated, you could just let it fallow. I know it sucks to look at an empty tank for four (I am not sure the exact timing) months, but it would sure do the trick, effortlessly...

When treating in the tank I have used with success a combination of metroplex and focus mixed with vitimarn m and C, amino acid, garlic oil this is all mixed with my frozen and a feed for a week. The focus binds the meds to the food and the fish ingest the food and the vitamins help boost the fishes immune systems. This suggestion is for in the tank treatment with NO COPPER :) What is going on it your fish are stressed for some reason. I have read some good things about Poly Labs Medic which is a in the tank treatment.

I agree it is always best to let the system follow for 76 days if you have a QT, but the above works.

Suggest you read thru the stickies under fish disease and diagnosis. There are only 3 proven methods to rid your fish of Ich...TTM, Cu and CP. And none of them can be performed in your DT. The DT will have to remain fallow for at least 76 days.

So I'm stupid what does fallow mean?
Introduced purple tang, within 2 days I knew it had ich. Now all my fish are scraping the rocks.
New set up so only have a few (obviously purple tang, 2 bangi,one purple anthious, Christmas wrasse, diamond back gobie) fish.
Going to tear down tank, lower water level to grab all fish and put into a new QT tank and treat them, though I still have to find best method.
Do I need to set up a second QT for my (very few) corals?
New tank setup.
What do you folks recommend for treatment of fish after getting into QT?
Please help, This is the last tank I'm allowed to set up.
I'm 62 years old and have several tanks, from 10 gallon to 210 gallon, now at 90 gallon cube over all these years. After all these years this is the first time I have to address ICH.
Please help it's the only hobby I have left after 7 back surgeries.

Fallow means no fish in the tank. Once you remove all the fish into the QT, you will need to let the DT run fallow (so that's no fish) for around 76 days. You do not need to take out any of the coral, you can leave coral & other inverts in the Display Tank. Ich is a parasite that needs a fish host. At a certain period in its life cycle it must find a fish host or die. Leaving the tank with no fish for 76 days (the absolute maximum life cycle for the parasite) will mean every parasite in the tank will be dead - no Ich.

As for the fish in the QT tank, easiest for you will be copper treatment. There are other methods such as tank transfer method (needs more than one QT tank) but they are more involved. Copper is not great for the fish, but is the easiest to implement.
