Hi All,

I am relatively new to reef keeping again (had a 250l fish only 15 years ago but got rid when had child) and this time have started with a 20 gallon Nano in my home office.

On Saturday i purchased 3 new corals for first time, all seem to have settled in really well and looking good. The toadstool I purchased seemed (at least in my knowledge) to be liking the area i glued it down, always extended, puffed up and opening up extremely quickly after lights went on etc.

However an hour ago i noticed it on sand bed and what looks like a baby nefarious snail? I think? (i do have 1 adult in the tank) crawling across it.

I am hoping someone can help advise me whether they think this is enough to make the coral detach, or it was detaching anyway due to not liking the position and this just tipped it off the ledge?

Also id check on the snail would be nice

Is there a shell on that because it looks like a slug or stomatella snail to me from your blue light pics? Could you take white light pic to make id easier?

Toadstools and soft corals like it need to be tied to a rock with thread or string and eventually the coral will attach itself. A rubber band works as well. Just not to tight or it will just cut thru and it will fall again.

If my old eyes are seeing correctly, that looks like a nudibranch. What kind of coral did it attach to? And yeah, taking pics should be a whole school in and of itself!!

this is a better one, it has a shell and went inside the shell when i detached it from the coral. It was moving across a toadstool, it looks very similar to a nassarius i already have and has the nose. I read those are extremely difficult to raise and normally get eaten, i only have 1 in the tank (for a few weeks) and tank is only 2-3 months old so if it is im unsure how i managed it as i started with ecoreef rock and live sand so no way for hitchhiker to get in. Corals only had for 2/3 days and were dipped etc

If it has a shell then I’d say you are probably right. It may be that it was in the live sand when you got it since that’s where the nassarius live anyway! Odd it would be climbing over a toadstool (thanks for reminding me what it was) though. Wonders of the deep never cease! Band the toadstool to a piece of rubble rock. I stick my softies that I band (not too tight) in an acclimation box until they’ve bonded. That way if they don’t want to attach, they’re not floating around the tank and attaching where I don’t want them!
