Honestly, macro isn't my strong point, but I'd guess this leafy one may be unrelated to the encrusting one it seems to be growing from. Either way, though, this reminded me of this thread:
All of that said, possibly a Halymenia, Porphyra, or Cryptonemia sp.?

Look at photos of porphyra leucosticta or kallymenia reniformis or any of that genus both can root I believe at least. I think I/we need to be content that all of us could be wrong or one of us could be right lol okay I’m done. I’ve been looking at photos of macroalgae since I first commented lol!

Awesome! Thanks so much for all of the additional research and assistance! I gave the presumed algae a test rub and it definitely felt "gelatinous" and smooth, but I'm not sure how much extra that tells us. Thanks again everyone for the input!

I haven't really touched it as I tend to use gloves when my hands are in the tank. It doesn't appear to be sponge-like as I have several different types of sponges in my tank as well and it doesn't appear similar.

It is attached to the back wall at a small basepoint. I was actually surprised at how durable it is because it's right in front of my Jebao wavemaker, but it seems to have a pretty strong hold.
It obviously likes the high flow or it wouldn't be there . Hope you get an id tho ;)

What ever it is, it is pretty. If it was my tank, I would keep it. Do your fish eat it?
Thanks! I like it quite a bit as well. It's very unique looking and adds a lot of flow to the tank. Luckily none of the fish pick at it and actually it's currently hosting my clownfish (they sleep in it). The only algae eater fish I have in the tank is a bicolor blenny but so far he hasn't touched it. I used to have a pincushion urchin that mowed down any kind of algae but he passed on earlier this year. I suspect with his departure this algae was finally able to grow outward into this larger piece.

Hi. I also have this red algae which seems to be identified by helpful people on here as halymenia floridana. I am not sure how I got it but it is very pretty and I don't want to lose it but I don't want it to take over my tank as it seems to have grown like wildfire overnight. Can anyone help tell me what my water conditions should be at to maintain this or is it growing because my water condition is not good. I am not sure. Like I said, I am not even sure where it came from as I have not added anything to my tank in along time!
