It obviously likes the high flow or it wouldn't be there . Hope you get an id thoI haven't really touched it as I tend to use gloves when my hands are in the tank. It doesn't appear to be sponge-like as I have several different types of sponges in my tank as well and it doesn't appear similar.
It is attached to the back wall at a small basepoint. I was actually surprised at how durable it is because it's right in front of my Jebao wavemaker, but it seems to have a pretty strong hold.
Thanks! I like it quite a bit as well. It's very unique looking and adds a lot of flow to the tank. Luckily none of the fish pick at it and actually it's currently hosting my clownfish (they sleep in it). The only algae eater fish I have in the tank is a bicolor blenny but so far he hasn't touched it. I used to have a pincushion urchin that mowed down any kind of algae but he passed on earlier this year. I suspect with his departure this algae was finally able to grow outward into this larger piece.What ever it is, it is pretty. If it was my tank, I would keep it. Do your fish eat it?
