Just relocated my failed attempt at a zoa garden to discover this black slime. Any ideas?

It very well could be, I just stumbled upon it. How do I tell, and if so, do I need to worry?
Best way is to touch it. If its squishy and not easily removed it's likely a sponge, if its slimy and is easily blown off the rock it's likely a slime algae of some type. But I'm thinking black sponge :)

it’s not easily blown off, so probably a black sponge. Is it harmless? Or should I take action?

Nope, sponges are a good thing. Filter feeders and a sign of a healthy aquarium:)

Appears to be sponge. Generally clear or yellow but under low light will darken
